The great thing about AI? They were more than happy to do inventory work for you while you sat back with the latest edition of People. Delta didn't mind York's laziness in this case; he always seemed to mess up his extensive system anyway.

"You keep beer by the cash register?" Wash asked, voice going high in mortified judgement.

Wash sighed. "Yes. Yes, I'd like a beer."

Wash rolled his eyes and went back to get a beer for himself. And none for York.

"Enjoying your new employment?"

York shrugged. "Not used to the whole straight and narrow thing yet."

"Let's just say it was still illegal but not as bad as what I did with the Freelancers." He definitely killed less people being a two bit thief.

"Fair enough." It was nice that almost anything was a moral step up from Project Freelancer. "Try not to get into that here. Though I don't think I've ever seen a cop here."

"No, no I'm trying to be good now," York said with a wave of his hand. "I just want to keep a low profile and stay out of the Director's line of sight."

"Before I would have bet on it," Wash replied with a sigh. "But who knows?"

"This might be because I'm an only child, but North should have cut ties with her years ago," he said, getting up to grab a beer. "She's unstable."

Wash took a drink of his beer, thinking of Connie instead of South at that. "You ever try telling him that?"

York huffed. "Hell no. I think Delta tried once."

"It did not go very well," Delta said, making himself visible. "Agent North did not want to hear about his sister's rash behavior."

"Hi, Delta," Wash said dryly. "I can't believe you made your AI tell him."

Wash rolled his eyes as he leaned against the counter, grinning faintly. "Because I cared about the board."

"It's obvious you didn't," he teased. "Probably for the best. Better that than take it way too seriously."

Wash flipped him off, feeling more relaxed than he had in a long time. "Oh, keep an eye out for a kid who thinks we should all be dead in a nuclear apocalypse. Had to take his gun from him."
