Rooftops of Town, Saturday night

Batman was perched on the corner of a rooftop, watching the town. Waiting for the sound of any kind of disruption that needed intervention.

It was going to be a long night. This certainly wasn't Gotham. It wasn't long before he was even checking in on Justice League frequencies for an excuse to bail.

Nightwing approached silently, not speaking until he was right behind Batman. "You know, nothing's happening tonight. You could just take it easy."

"You're up here too," Batman said.

"Yeah, but I don't think I recognized a single person," Nightwing suggested. "Either people from my two stints here didn't come back, or I have a way worse memory than I thought."

"Probably the latter," Batman prodded before going back to observing.

"I'll be on the other corner," Nightwing said, turning around. "Let me now if you need anything."

[OOC: Open for other people on the rooftops or in need of guest vigilantes!]

Nope, definitely not Gotham, but that wasn't a deterrent, and neither were Oracle's amused observations about the (lack of) skyline.

"Nostalgia, O," Batgirl said into her comm before she leapt from the rooftop she'd been on. "Nos. Tal. Gia. You do know the word, right?"

She paused to listen, then snorted.

"I thought we agreed we were never speaking of that again, but sure, let's blame it on me practicing on low roofs for so long."

She hopped the gap between rooftops and looked up to realize she had company.

"Oooooooooookay, this was probably more unexpected than it should have been."

Whatever Oracle's comment on that was, she kept her retort to herself.

"I didn't. And I definitely didn't expect you to be wearing that. But it's a good look," Nightwing said.

Well. As far as anyone in her world knew Bruce was dead, and Dick-as-Batman was definitely not thrilled about her trying to fill Cass's shoes, so this was a bit of mental whiplash. Honestly, she'd half expected a cooler reception.

//Huh,// Oracle's voice came through her earpiece. //At least it's not the disco collar.//

"Well, I stopped at the Perk but they were a little bit busy, and then I took the scenic route," Batgirl answered, mostly succeeding at holding back a snicker. "And, uh . . . surprise?"

"And you didn't get coffee for everyone?" Nightwing asked. "I don't know about him, but I'll have to dock you some Bat-points for that."

You know, someday she was going to find out that Bruce wasn't dead, and she was going to slap him, and when she did part of it was going to be for disappearing and leaving Dick to cover for him. Because he couldn't crack jokes all the time, and that just seemed wrong somehow.

Batgirl shook her head. "Let's just say my contacts network isn't what it used to be. People moving on and all."

You never had an actual network of contacts here, Steph.

"Don't worry about him, he's just bored," Nightwing said. "It's like what people say about how having phones with you all the time keeps you from ever sitting still anymore. Now that he has the Justice League, he doesn't even have to sit still on quiet nights in Gotham. It's tough for him to sit around in a quiet town instead of beating bad guys up on another planet."

"And now you get twice the banter for the price of -- that reference went off the rails," Batgirl said cheerfully. "Didn't you miss this?"

She glanced at Nightwing. "So how are things in . . . Blüdhaven these days?" Was that where he was lately? Being from a different universe was such confusing fun.

"I mean, it's no Gotham, but it's kind of nice to have a little more freedom and a little less crime," Nightwing said.

"I think I'm going to take that as a compliment," Batgirl announced. "Not that I've ever met him."

She was mentally fistpumping at guessing correctly, by the way.

"Never met him personally, but I hear generally good things," Nightwing teased. "I doubt we're worse than him, though. He can talk at superspeed."

Observing the town

It had been seven, eight years since he'd last been here, apparently. For 6, though, it felt like moments. He must get the lay of the land. Luckily, he had binoculars and a high vantage point.

[OOC: There's this thing where 6 will make horribly inaccurate observations based on people walking across his field of view. Respond here with what you're doing in the streets below and 6 will make notes]
