The Perk, Monday Morning

If anyone had spotted black fox running about yesterday, chasing gremlins and generally looking like it was having the time of his life, yep, that had been Ezra.

He was back to being a guy today. And he felt he had more than earned the hot chocolate monstrosity in front of him on this fine morning. As well as his pre-class lounging at a table at the Perk just in general. Also he thought of it as making himself available. So really, it was like a public service.

... Mostly he was distracting the barista with idle flirty glances.

Ezra waved a dismissive hand. "You don't smell like you're related to me."

Werefox. Maybe he should have explained that, but eh.

"That's a little strange but reassuring," Bay said. "So, not me, not a long-lost brother ... I think we're good to talk for a couple minutes."

"Great," Ezra replied, and gestured at the chair across from him. "Then won't you sit down for a while?"

"Sure, why not," Bay said, sliding into the seat. "So ... the island seems to be pretty much the same as it was when I left. That's weirdly reassuring."

"Well, it wouldn't do for the island to stray too far from its baseline weirdness," Ezra replied, tilting his head. "How long have you been gone?"

"Not all that long," Bay shrugged. "I graduated in '14. Came back a couple times after to visit, but then life sort of got crazy, you know?"

She was from a soap opera. Her life got very crazy indeed.

She sipped her coffee. "How long have you been here?"

"Since the beginning of this year," he replied. "Long enough to know the island is crazy but very pretty."

He meant the people with the latter. Of course.

"Which feels like it's about all that's really important."
