Luke's, Monday
Eliot had spent a good chunk of his weekend prepping for today's specials. It'd been particularly gorgeous, weather-wise -- for someone who didn't really have seasonal allergies, anyway -- and he'd been excited to start in on some heartier, cooler weather recipes he'd found.
When he came into Luke's carrying a large cooler, the kitchen staff all groaned collectively.
"You remember the part where we're a diner, right?" the cook asked, eyeing the whole chickens Eliot was pulling out skeptically.
"That's no excuse for lazy cooking," Eliot replied. "Now someone preheat the oven. We've got some roasting to do."

Roast chicken with mustard thyme sauce

Brown butter, ginger, and sour cream coffee cake
"Well," grumped the cook, slouching in the corner with a slice of cake and a scowl. "At least you made us cake while you were at it."
