Devil's Nest, Monday, 10/19

There was a chill in the air that had Jack tightening his scarf around his neck on the way to work, and fixing a cup of tea with a nip of bourbon in it once he was behind the bar.

The weather had Jack thinking more seriously about Halloween. He liked costume parties, always had, and it struck him as a terrible waste that the bar had never hosted one. This would be the year to change that, he decided.

He grabbed a notebook and started planning.

It's been a while since Kitty had been here, so why not stop in? "Hello, person I haven't talked to lately," she greeted him.

"I could say the same to you," Jack said, with a slight grin. "Sorry about that. School's eating my life. How are you?"

"Everything's eating my life," she said, taking a seat. "It is going good, though?"

"It's a lot. I keep telling myself the second year's supposed to be the worst year," Jack confided, leaning forward on the bar. "So when it's really bad, I can think about how I'm almost done with the worst part."

"You got this," she told him. "The tough stuff makes you appreciate it more when you're all done."

"That's the theory, isn't it?" Jack said. "But don't you ever wish you could just skip the tough stuff? I think I appreciate things plenty without that."

"Welcome to why I suck at wedding planning," Kitty admitted. "Take out the dumb stuff and it'd be fine."

"I forget you're engaged too," Jack said, tilting his head to the side. "God. We aren't even starting on the planning part until after I graduate. Have you set a date yet?"

"Springish," she said. "Wait, did you get engaged too? Where was I?"

"I think I just haven't talked to you since?" Jack said apologetically. "It's not engaged-engaged, anyhow. It's more a plan to get engaged after we're both done with school. I asked Emma at the end of summer."

"Congratulations. And ow, my brain," she smiled. She could have her Emma issues, but this was good.

"We could grab Derek and Stiles and all elope to Vegas if the planning gets too bad," Jack suggested. (Because a wedding at which Kitty and Emma were the brides would go so smoothly.) "Oh, and thank you."

"A triple wedding with Elvis, involving me and Emma and Clint and Derek," she said. "We'd be on the news."

"Hopefully not for punching Elvis?" Jack asked brightly.

"I couldn't guarantee he wouldn't be a civilian casualty," she said.

"Maybe Vegas in Stiles and Derek's world?" Jack wondered. "No, wait, that would just get our weddings crashed by evil werewolves or banshees or whatever they're fighting this week."

"And between me, Clint and Emma the world might end or aliens might invade," she said. "Clint and I absolutely discussed this, by the way."

Vampire vampire!

Who was not having pumpkin spice True Blood. Who was actually wondering if it's even really wrong to kill the person who invented pumpkin spice True Blood.

"You did?" Jack asked, grinning. "Did you come up with a way to apocalypse-proof your wedding?"

"Let other people handle it till after the ceremony?" Kitty half-laughed.
