Bellamy was back behind the counter, feet up and magazine open on his lap. This place, above all else, was boring sometimes. There was always something to do where he'd come from, always some fire to put out but here, it was just slow and lazy.

He sighed and turned a page.

Clarke didn't even understand what a Homecoming was so she had no urge to join in on the fun. Still it didn't mean she wanted to hang around the dorms while everybody was getting ready.

Which would be why she showed up at the store. She really had no urge to buy a gun but she did have an urge to not be bored.

"Hi."

"I wasn't even sure you still lived on this island," Bellamy said, glancing up. "Isn't there some dance you should be getting pretty for right now?"

"Been keeping to myself," she said with a shrug. "And I'm not going to the dance."

"No?" He kept his magazine open but looked up at her. "Why not? No one asked you?"

"Because I don't want to go, that's why," she said, crossing her arms over her chest. "I don't really get the point of the whole thing and it seems like a waste of resources."

"This place is a giant waste of resources," he told her, shaking his head. "And we're both sucking them up pretty comfortably, aren't we? How come we can't get back?"

"Do you really think I have an answer to that or are you just being an ass?" she asked.

"Rhetorical question," he told her, shrugging. "I was venting. I know you don't know or else you'd be gone. Right?"

"I'd tell you if I found something."

"Okay," he said, accepting that though he wasn't sure if he trusted her completely. "What've you been doing since I last saw you anyway?"

"Keeping my head down," Clarke said. "Been hiding in the library mostly."

Bellamy raised an eyebrow. "How exciting for you. Surprised you're not getting right into the middle of things, making your presence known."

"The people here seem to have their act together better than the people back home," she said. "No need to make my presence known."

Clarke liked to think she was only bossy when it was called for.

"You made any friends?" he wondered curious despite himself.

"Not really," she admitted. Which was her own fault, she knew. "You?"

"A few," he answered, shrugging. "What can I say, people like me, Clarke. I'm charismatic."

"I'm not surprised," she said. "People always liked you better than me."

Or maybe he was just more intimidating than she was and people wanted to stay on his good side.

"Natural charm," he told her, flipping his magazine closed and sitting up. "I could teach you my ways, if you want."

Clarke chuckled. "I don't know if I can pull off the whole Bellamy Blake vibe."

"Oh, you couldn't but maybe you'd manage a vibe of your own," Bellamy quipped. "Find a vibe all your own."

"You think I could find one that people would approve of?" she joked.

"You act like you've never managed to have friends before," he said with a shake of his head. "That guy Wells, he was your friend right? He was all about you."

"Was," she said bitterly. "We grew up together. That's different."

"Why?" Bellamy asked her. "What's different?"

"Because meeting someone as a kid is different as an adult," she said. "It's easier."

"Well, maybe if you loosen up a little, it'll be a little easier for you to meet people now," he suggested. "Just some advice."

Clarke nodded, 'cause that was pretty sound advice. She had gotten used to being in charge and ready for anything back home. "I might have to do that. Think it involves liquor?"

"The more the better," Bellamy said because that was his philosophy. "I've always find it helps unwind after another day on this island."

"It's not that bad."

Bellamy rolled his eyes and shook his head. "It's not where I want to be."

"Not exactly where I want to be either," she said. "But it could be worse."

Bellamy waved a hand at her. "Don't try and pep talk me. I'm having a good day and until Octavia's here, this place is always gonna be the worst."

"You do realize you don't have to bite my head off every time we converse, right?" she asked.

"I'm not," he said, rolling his eyes at her. "I just miss her, okay? I'm worried."

"I know that," she said. "I'm worried too."

"I figured," he said, sighing. "I'm not trying to bite your heard off. I promise. I just feel useless here."

"At least you're making yourself useful," she said, gesturing towards the store. "More than I have at least."

"Then, get a job, lazy ass," he said lightly. "I'm sure some place around here would hire you."
