The busboy was dressed as a pirate, somehow complete with an actual wooden peg leg. Eliot was going to ask him how he managed that, but he was a little afraid he'd get an answer. The cook was dressed as a monkey in what rather looked like a giant set of adult footie pajamas, except that he was stirring the soup pot with an actual prehensile tail.
The dishwasher was nowhere to be seen.
"You idiots understand it ain't actually Halloween, right?" Eliot asked. ". . . Where the hell's the damn dishwasher?"
"He's dressed as a ninja," the busboy said. "Arrrrrrr."
A crash of thunder echoed over the diner's sound system, followed by an evil cackle and a howl. Eliot sighed and pondered hiding out in his office for the rest of the week.
