Halloween Party, Devil's Nest, Saturday Night

The club had been done up with Victorian-themed Halloween decorations for tonight's party -- black and silver gauze and candleticks all around, with skull and black rose centerpieces. The day's power outage was unfortunate, but Jack had decided to count himself fortunate the clamminess inside went with the theme.

Tiny had been assigned ID-checking duty while Jack manned the bar, and a playlist of Halloween songs would play as long as the battery on Jack's laptop held out.

Show off those costumes. Under 21s get a lovely orange wristband.

Didi, who believed you were never too old or too serious for costumes, had dressed up as a movie character. You'd be forgiven for taken a moment to recognize her under all that color.

"Really?" Dante said, scowling at Tiny from under his cowboy hat as he got the wristband put on. "You people are anal on this end of town."

Maybe Frank would be here tonight? Or he could cut across town to Caritas. Whichever.

Atton was still close to muttering insults quietly under his breath when he finally made it down to the Devil's Nest. Yeah, he was just going to poke his head in, see if it might improve his mood any, and then duck out.

That was the sane thing to do.

Didi smiled over at him with a quick wave, possibly thwarting his plans.

"Hey," she said. "Happy Halloween. What are you dressed up as?"

[OOC: SP in effect this afternoon because kids, I'm afraid!]

"Like a guy from another ~~country~~ galaxy who forgot this was a dress-up holiday," Atton sighed.

"It's totally natural looking," Didi nodded. "I could hardly tell it was a costume at all."

"Thanks, I worked real hard on it," Atton drawled.

To be fair, even if he'd known about it, it wasn't like he'd had time to go outfit-shopping. "What about you? I feel like my eyes start hurting every time I look at that dress." Beat. "Not an insult. Just, y'know..."

Colors.

"It shows," Didi noted, in response to the first comment. In response to the second she spread her skirt over her knees, petting it fondly. "It's ~~meta~~ Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. I guess the movie didn't make it to your galaxy, huh?"

She was feeling pretty weird about the colors, too.

"No, but that says nothing about the movie," Atton said. "Not a lot of Earth holos making it to my end of the universe, funnily enough. At least you're going to look cheery tonight."

"Which isn't the adjective people normally use to describe my fashion sense, so I'll take it," Didi said, cheerily enough. "You should see the movie, though. It's about these ghosts and monsters who try to put together a Christmas. Really weirdly adorable."

"Sounds a little like what I'd be getting if I'd decided to stay at home for our own holidays," Atton said. "You don't wanna see Mical before his morning caf, let me tell you."

"I'll take your word for it," Didi decided. "Who's Mical?"

"Too-good-for-his-own-good ex-spy who now more or less runs things at the Temple because he can't help himself," Atton said.

And Atton pretended to hate him because he'd hated him, once, when he thought they were competing over Meetra, and now acting like he hated Mical was a comfortable anchor in a chaotic landscape.

Not that that was relevant.

"Another Jedi."

UGH Emma knew that cat-sack of a brain. Of course she had to torment it.

"Rand," she said pleasantly, plunking down next to him. "I know they don't pay Jedi OR teachers, so let's abuse my powers of persuasion and get you a drink on the house."

She didn't even have to use her powers to do it, either! It was a minor mutant miracle! ...or she used to work here. Details.

"Emma," Atton said, sighing, because it wasn't like he hadn't sensed her coming in. "I get a little money off the teacher gig, actually, but I'm not going to say no to a scotch."

It'd have been a soda if he'd been ordering himself, but he wasn't telling her that much.

Mara, fresh from getting treats all over town, was still in her ninja costume, ready to get her...according to the orange wristband...non-alcoholic fun on.

Okay, whatever. If it got too boring, she had the new book from the store.

April had never been here before, but she was excited, although the orange wristband wasn't totally jiving with her costume.

It all looked extremely handmade, but very cute.

The menu includes soda and beer in bottles with spooky labels; apple-bobbing punch for everyone and a full range of Halloween cocktails for the grown-ups; and themed treats like mummy-wrapped brie and stuffed toadstools. And, of course, it wouldn't be Halloween without giant tubs of candy.

Jack was behind the bar, trying to decide whether he was brave enough to try a concoction that called itself a candy corn martini.

Tamsin walked straight past Tiny, parked her ass by the bar, and called, "Bring on the booze!"

"Mr. Hyde potion, blood orange martini, or ghoul-a-rita?" Jack asked with a sardonic smile. "Or maybe you'd prefer a black widow shot."

If he was going to serve things with ridiculous names, he was going to enjoy it.

"All of them," Tamsin said. "Can't you see my 'woman desperately in need of a drink' costume?"

"Now that I look at you I do," Jack said, and fixed her a couple drinks plus a shot for the hell of it. "Clever. I'm dressed up as 'bartender who had to organize this thing and was too lazy to put on a costume too.'"

"Hey, I guess that means we match," Tamsin said, grabbing the first drink in line without looking at it. "Imagine the odds!"

"It's shocking," Jack agreed. "I think you get a free drink out of that."

"Score," Tamsin said, because she was easy like that. She sipped from her drink. "Bet you're all bummed out about working tonight."

"Only a little," Jack shrugged. "I'd probably be here for the party anyhow, and at least this way I get paid. Besides, Halloween wasn't much of a holiday back home."

"Hey, back home it's a great excuse to dress up as sexy whatever and get wasted," Tamsin said, shrugging. "Maybe I should unbutton this blouse some more. That'll sell it."

Because she ~~loved~~ liked him, Emma was perched on the bar in her sneaky kitty costume from high school. Because it still fit very, very nicely, and she had lovely new strappy black heels to show off.

"I need a smoking skulls shot," she decided, pulling her credit card out of her cleavage. "Who's drinking with me?"

What good was being fabulously rich if you couldn't buy drinks for random people?

"I am, I am," Jack said, sing-song. He was not above letting his fiancee buy him a drink, even one he normally wouldn't pay for. "I could do a whole flight of Halloween shots with horrible names for you, if you'd let me."

"Just don't pour me a 'black widow,' darling," Emma teased. "--but you can pour me whatever else you like."

Clint didn't really want to be here, but he also didn't want to sit at home and drink when he could have different drinks somewhere else. He might have food at some point, but... maybe.

Which looks a lot like walking around the bar, but they play Thriller while you do it.

They did the mash. They did the monster mash.

For Eric and invited guests.

Eric was dressed as a vampire, complete with fake teeth, a shiny cape and glitter, because Eric thought he was hilarious.

Emma was giving you so much side-eye, Eric. So much. But it's out of love, really.

"False advertising," she accused, leveling one of her little drink umbrellas at him. "You don't glitter."

"I do tonight," Eric replied. "Besides, that's what the books says vampires do these days and I want to keep up with the times."

I picked the wrong time to get rid of Kitty. D:

I was literally just thinking that. Halloween miracle resurrection?
