The Perk- Friday afternoon

Jaina had not slept well. It wasn't like she didn't have plenty in her life to have nightmares about, but yesterday had been a doozy. She'd been all set to leave today, and was kind of glad that if it happened again tonight at least she could whine at Jag.

But she had a bad feeling about this. After sitting with her bags at the Perk, waiting for her portal, she suddenly pulled the app up and cancełed it.

Now she was on hold with customer service, trying to sort out the she hadn't changed her reservation to take her to Mars by way of the frozen tundra.

"The biggest caf you have," Mara told the barista, rubbing her eyes. "Now. Please."

"You too, huh?" Jaina asked, putting her phone on speaker and putting it down.

Yeah, seeing tiny Mara was still weird.

Mara nodded her head once. "It was a long night," she understated.

"I get the feeling that's going around," Jaina said sympathetically.

"Leroy is going to blame me for it," Mara said, "because I said it'd been too quiet this semester."

Jaina probably doesn't know who Leroy is, Mara.

"Is Leroy a friend?" Jaina guessed, sipping her coffee. A very large coffee.

"He's one of the radio squirrels," Mara said. "I'm not really good with friends."

[solo_sword]

"You'll get better," Jaina assured her, and hey, she knew that to be true. "But you probably did jinx us."

"There's no such thing as jinxes," Mara declared, frowning.

"You'll know you've been here too long when you start doubting that," Jaina told her.

"That's the giveaway?" Mara frowned. "I was hoping I could get the Emperor to let me home sooner."

[solo_sword]

Oh, that was jarring to hear. "The Emperor?"

Mara nodded. "He's my guardian."

And what a fine role model he was!

Jaina sighed. "You are so young."

And her Mara had ended up with a lot of regrets in regards to this.

"I am not," Mara said. "I'm fifteen! I have a boyfriend!"

"In ten years you're going to take that back," Jaina said dryly. "You have a boyfriend?"

Weeeeeeird.

Mara nodded, ponytail bouncing as she did so. "His name is Eggsy."

Yup.

".Is that a family name?" asked the woman whose husband was an adjective.

[giveherahand]

"No," Mara said. "It's a nickname."

British people were weird, Jaina.

"And you're dating him." At least it wasn't as bad as when Leia was at Fandom?

Mara nodded. "He's...challenging."

He was short and had a need to prove himself. Go figure.

"In a good way or bad?" Jaina wondered.

"A good way," Mara said, smiling. "It's not fun if there's no challenge."

"That's good to hear. Weird if you're me, but." Oh, Fandom, why are you like this.

Mara smirked. "Well, I'm not here to make you comfortable."
