The cook and the dishwasher were arguing extremely loudly about last night's halftime show. Apparently, the dishwasher had said something disparaging about Coldplay with the cook had taken very personally.

Behind them, the busboy was quietly decorating the kitchen and dining room in red lanterns and monkeys. Eliot gave him an approving nod -- until he spotted the fireworks.

"Not inside."

"But --"

"Not. Inside."

The busboy pouted, but moved the fireworks out into the alley.

Honestly, he'd wandered off during halftime. He preferred the actual football game part.

To be honest, Washington ended up watching the puppy bowl and got overly invested in the trials of those puppies. So. He couldn't exactly judge that.

"Is everything sorted out?" So he could stop being moderately concerned his apartment was going to be broken into by an assortment of people.

Eliot raised an eyebrow. "You mean have we worked out that Hardison doesn't actually want in your pants?"

"I'm repressing that," Wash replied dryly. "But yes."

Eliot snorted. "We got no idea why, but whatever it was 'parently wore off the minute your 'date' was over. So don't worry 'bout it."

"Whatever was going around can stay gone." It was terrible and deeply uncomfortable to deal with those kinds of things.

Someone shoot at him instead. Please.

"Just wanted to confirm no one was going to try and murder me in my sleep."

"That's not really our style," Eliot said. "Parker'n I are way more direct than that."

If they were going to kill you, they wanted you to look 'em in the eye first so you knew what you'd done wrong.

"Either way. Try not to take a shot at me." It would be annoying, but oddly comforting and homey.

"For turnin' him down and askin' if he needed you to call us?" Eliot shrugged. "Got no beef with ya, man. Don't worry."

"Oh...kay," Wash said slowly, really suspicious now. But that was also his default state. "Good. That's really good."

Eliot sighed. "Would it make you feel better if I threatened you?"

"A little, yes."

"You realize that's pathetic, right?"

"Well aware," Wash replied without missing a beat.

"Just makin' sure."

"Crystal clear."

"Ya want somethin' to eat, or are you just here to irritate me?"

"I could eat." And irritate Eliot at the same time!

"Alright, what can I getcha?"

"Surprise me." This would end badly for him.

"You were literally just makin' sure I didn't want to kill you."

"You're not going to poison me," Wash replied. Because he at least liked to think he could tell that much about his opponents.

How do I not have more icons of this boy in red?
