It had seemed like a dinosaur sort of day, so when Alluka made it into work, she was carting the over-sized dinosaur that Jono had gotten her.

She squished it tightly, set it by the front counter, set a flower hat on top of its head, and then went about opening the shop.

When she was done with that, she decided to hold a fashion show for her dinosaur.

Did it like this dress better than this one?

Or maybe this one was even better?

Kathy hadn't seen Alluka in far too long, so she was showing up to Demon Marcus with two warm cups of cocoa to share.

"Hello," she called, entering the store. "Anyone around? I come bearing chocolate!"

That got Alluka's attention as she flailed her way out of the depths of the store. She set her next armful of dresses down and beamed at Kathy.

"Kathy! Kathy, hi! Come look at my dinosaur!" It was rude to demand her chocolate, right? So Alluka wasn't going to do that as she zeroed in for a hug.

"Ooooh, a dinosaur?" Kathy asked, heading over in that direction. "I hope your friend doesn't mind sharing with you, I only brought two drinks."

She smiled down at the dinosaur--not hard, considering it was still dressed in a watercolor print outfit. "Goodness, it's almost as big as you are!"

It was also ridiculously adorable as far as Alluka was concerned.

"It can share," she said happily. "And I love how big it is, because then it hugs back the best! Some of my friends aren't very good at it."

Er. Her stuffed friends. Her real ones were all pretty good at hugs.

"Speaking of," Kathy said, setting down the drinks and opening her arms, "how have you been? It's been way too long since I've seen you! Do you get the packages I leave by your room?"

Kathy compulsively fed people. Especially people who'd exist on candy if they could. Peanut butter and carrots might not be the most healthy diets, but it was better than the alternative.

Alluka flung herself gleefully into that hug.

"I do, I do," she said, beaming. "And, and I promise I eat them! And I got your elephant and thank you so much for the friend!"

"Good," Kathy said, squeezing Alluka tightly. "I'm glad! I saw that elephant and knew that it needed a good friend like you. I'm happy I was right!"

"I love it," she said, giggling. "Though it likes to sleep in a lot."

Because some toys did that!

"Did, did you get any presents? I didn't know I was supposed to send any."

"I did," Kathy assured her. Not as many as she'd given out, but then, Kathy was a hyperactive Christmas elf. "And I got to go to Japan with Ringo for New Years. And I found out that Dante and I share a birthday, so that was fun, too. All in all, it was a great holiday season."

"Yay! Was Japan fun? Did you and Dante do fun things for your birthday?" she asked, squeezing Kathy once more and then letting go to make a reach for the hot chocolate. "Thank you for the chocolate!"

She thought about it for a moment then said, "Did, did you want a new dress? I can help pick it out and Sparkle says I have a discount!"

It... it'd be like getting her a present? Alluka could actually afford to buy presents now and then now, which was pretty impressive, given... Alluka.

"I had a lot of fun," Kathy said. "I'd never been to Japan before, so I got to look around and explore and try new foods!"

The food had been the most exciting bit, at least for Kathy. But then, that's what happened when you were a metabolic Superball.

"And yes, I'd love it if you'd help me find something," Kathy said. She had no intention of letting Alluka actually pay for it, but she'd use the discount if that would make Alluka happy. "You think between the three of us, we can find something good?"

Alluka clapped her hands together excitedly.

"I think we can find you the best thing," Alluka said earnestly. "Sparkle says I'm good at outfits. Is there anything you don't like?"

"Big, bold prints," Kathy said. She'd had enough of those her first year or so here. "And clothes that are really baggy. I like slim-fitting clothes, short skirts, leggings, that kind of thing."

Mrs. Adler had told Kathy to flaunt what she had and, dammit, Kathy was going to listen.

"But colour is still okay?" Alluka checked, bouncing a little as she fetched a stool from behind the counter. "Take a seat, take a seat! I'll get you clothes to look at!"

"Color is still good," Kathy said, taking her coat off so Alluka could see what she was wearing today. "You get whatever you think looks good and we'll see wht we can find!"

"I will, I will!"

And so she did, scurrying off into the aisles on a Mission.

She came back a few minutes later with an armful of dresses. None of them, except for one were particularly muted in colour, but Kathy had said colour was okay.

Alluka liked the pattern on this one (she hoped the embroidery was pretty enough for Kathy), and she loved the look of this one. This one was a bit more subdued, but the layer-thing it had going on was Super Cute.

Kathy had said she didn't want big and bold patterned, but Alluka had snuck this one into the pile anyway. It would be adorable on Kathy.

"I bring options!" she chirped happily.

"Oooh!" Kathy said, immediately reaching for the first dress in the stack. No, it wasn't colorful, but she really liked the lines. And the second and third were cute, too. The fourth one she could leave and the fifth--it was very bright and very bold and Kathy loved it. "These are so cute! I'm going to go try them on!"

She beamed at Kathy.

"I'll be waiting," she said, glad her choices hadn't been rejected out of hand. "Go on!"

Kathy was all too happy to play dressup for Alluka's entertainment--and her own as well, if she wanted to be honest. The dresses Alluka had picked were close to her usual style and she liked the short and flirty styles. She came out with each new dress, showing it off from every angle, then spinning around in it to make the skirt flare if it was that cut.

"I'm getting three I think." She set the first two aside to buy, then held up the last three. "Which one do you like best?"

Her preference was for the blue, but whichever one make Alluka happiest was getting bought.

Alluka's eyes went huge.

"I, I get to choose?"

What if she made the wrong choice?!

"Why shouldn't you get to choose?" Kathy asked. "I value your opinion, Alluka. These were all your idea first, weren't they?"

Kathy did her best to bulk up Alluka's self-confidence. She knew how easy such things were to prune away.

"Well... yes...," Alluka said, looking a bit lost. "But, but you're going to wear them."

"And every time I wear it, I'll think of you," Kathy said. "Especially after I graduate."

I've really got to get more organized.
