Parking Lot by Causeway, Sunday Afternoon

There was absolutely nothing to see here. Just a perfectly ordinary parking lot with some cars in it...including a Mitsubishi with two kids in the process of hotwiring it.

But, you know, given the kids, this was to be expected.

"Let me do it!"

"Shh!"

((Open parking lot is open.))

Ylva was living on the edge. Ylva was... on her way to get coffee because she wasn't under the normal amount of supervision and could get away with it.

"Hey, what do you think you're doing?"

"This is our dad's car," Gabriela told her, trying to hide what Jack was actually doing. "He said we could."

No, he didn't.

"Uh huh." She totally bought that. "Your dad lets you play with his car."

Her dad didn't. Not without supervision while calling it daddy-daughter bonding.

"Well, duh. Last week he let me change the spark plugs!"

Of course, usually her mom insisted on more adult supervision. Not that that was a problem with half a dozen people willing to teach them something new in the garage.

"Hey!" Jack bumped his head on the steering wheel, so his, "I was supposed to get to do that!" was even more pained than it might have been.

"You already know how to change spark plugs! And you were at soccer!" So there, Jack. So there.

Ylva just rolled her eyes and went up on her toes to look into the car. "Are you stealing a car?"

She sounded a little excited about that.

"No," Jack said, a little more offended than the situation he was currently in (hotwiring) really allowed. "We're borrowing it."

"If you don't have the keys, it's not really borrowing," Ylva replied smugly.

"Sometimes our dad makes us hotwire the car to prove we remember how," Gabi said, equally smugly. "You never know when you'll have to," she sing-songed.

"And it's totally borrowing if you put it back when you're done," Jack added. "Or park it in one piece where the police can find it and return it to the owner."

Yeah, their family had different rules.

He family had rules about robots, gods, and felonies. So.

"That's still stealing," she pointed out. Mostly because she could.

Gabi dramatically rolled her eyes. "No, it's not." So there.

"Yeah it is," Ylva replied. "You mixed up the wires."

She was Tony Stark's kid. Of course she knew how to do that.

Jack and Gabriela exchanged A Look, during which it was acknowledged between the siblings that because a non-family member was now criticizing him, Gabriela would be very gracious and not point out again that he should have let her do it.

"I've got it, thanks," Jack said.

"Do you want to go with us?" Gabi asked, because if this girl was with them she couldn't tattle.

Gabriela shrugged. "Iunno. Just gonna drive." Or, well, Jack was. Gabriela still needed someone to reach the pedals for her.
