Tony was poking at one of the Brood extraction devices, making sure to get the plans for them saved and stored for future use in case this happened here again. Or where he was from.

Either way would suck.

When he wasn't working on that, he had JARVIS running surveillance on Jan to see where and when would be the best possible moment to talk to her without placing anyone in danger. It was only moderately creepy---no, no Tony. It was full on creepy. Accept it and move on.

He sighed, switching those screens and to the lists of supplies still on hand in the shop and what money JARVIS had managed embezzle out of his own damn accounts. Because why only work on two things at once?

Rey came in for her shift, more curious than surprised to see Tony here before her. "What are you working on?" she asked.

He owned the place. Kinda. It was debatable right now.

"Different projects," Tony replied with a fast smile as he minimized the more sensitive things.

"Anything interesting?"

She'd noticed the minimizing but was nice enough not to say anything.

Which was for the best as he wouldn't have answered. "Not unless you really like accounting."

"Can't say that I do," Rey said. "Is this all private stuff that you won't talk to me about and I should just go do my own work and pretend you're not here?"

Dang it, Rey!

"I live here, so technically I'm always here," he pointed out.

[thatwaslucky]

"Hence the pretending," she said helpfully.

Rude! But fair.

"You can do that. I think there's coffee. Maybe. I've had a lot since I made it this morning."

Because he woke up and couldn't get back to sleep. So he started projects instead and drank terrible coffee.

"Should I offer to make more if not, or does that mean you've had enough for today?" She was genuinely asking. She knew not how much coffee was too much coffee.

There was no such thing as too much coffee. Unless you were having heart palpitations.

Then maybe.

"Well, if you want any that isn't sludge..."

"Then I will absolutely be making more," Rey said immediately.

[imafuturist]

That's what happens when you leave a cup left in the pot for hours.

"It's part of the engineering process," Tony replied seriously.

[thatwaslucky]

"Coffee that could be used on an engine if needed?" Rey asked totally innocently really.

[imafuturist]

"I don't think it'd do much, but that's certainly a hypothesis."

He was going to have JARVIS make sure the kid not get near any engines in the shop while holding coffee.

"Maybe I'll test it if I ever get bored," she mused.

[imafuturist]

"Damages come out of your paycheck," he reminded her.

Because he wasn't rich anymore, okay?

[thatwaslucky]

"Oh, I can find one for free I can work on," she assured him. "I have ways."

Finding them in the junk yard, she meant.

"Just don't break any laws." He'd totally bail her out of jail, but he'd be surly about it.
