Eliot was in a Mood. Spending the weekend simultaneously both older and younger than normal had left him feeling twitchy in his own skin, and the knowledge that there were Kathys out there in the multiverse who weren't dead was bittersweet at best. Oh. And it was memorial day. So he'd spent a good chunk of his morning fending off phone calls from his friends who were still in the military. He'd tried taking those frustrations out on a heavy bag -- breaking it in the process -- and on a run -- which just ended up reminding him how much slower he was at 40 than at 20 -- and now he was doing it by ordering his kitchen staff around and being belligerent.

The busboy gave him a gooey-eyed look of sympathy and patted him on the shoulder.

"It's okay," he said. "We know how those weekends always mess with your emotional equilibrium."

Eliot growled (without moving away from the sympathetic patting). "You're fired."

"No." The busboy patted him again. "I'm not."

His grump is turned up to 11.

"Aww, look," Hardison said, sauntering into the diner. "Someone's grumpy about bein' all old again. Sad you can't run up an' down every staircase on the island?"

Yeah, there were plenty of reasons for Eliot to be in a mood, from the day to having to say goodbye permanently to people they cared about. But Hardison was going to pick the easiest one so Eliot could just yell to his heart's content and not have to think about it.

"I can still do that," Eliot grumbled. And he could. Just not fast or gracefully, the way he could've over the weekend. "Too bad no one tried to kidnap you this time. I coulda probably taken 'em out before you even realized what was goin' on."

"Hey! The last time that happened I ain't heard the end of it for weeks. We ain't even got a kidnappin' calendar, but y'all were naggin' me about havin' to reset it. This weekend I just decided to play it cool. Hang with my TA. Watch your butt while you ran."

Look around for Hanna and fret at her not being there.

"I did always hear I had a nice butt," Eliot mused. "Nicest ass on the football team, they called me."

Well, the cheerleaders did. The football players who might've been thinking it knew better than to say something like that out loud in the 20th century south.

"What, you a tight end?" Hardison asked, because the joke was right there.

Eliot snorted and backhanded Hardison's chest (gently). "I was the quarterback, asshole. I was the goddamn king of that town. Great ass and all."

"Sad we ain't never gonna be in high school together," Hardison said, grinning, though he was rubbing his chest for show anyway. He did miss the extra muscle mass of his older self. "The Foe Yay would be epic."

To lie curled up on the couch all day or to try to walk it out on the way to the bookstore. Oh, the eternal cramp question. Whether tis nobler in the uterus to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous FUCK YOU BODY WHAT THE HELL WE'VE DONE THIS ONCE A MONTH FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS PLEASE CALM THE FUCK DOWN.
