Community Center Class: International Cuisine, Monday evening

Hannibal greeted everyone and checked his watch. "Welcome to International Cuisine; our portal should be arriving any moment. Today we'll be doing something slightly different - instead of visiting another country to sample its cuisine, we'll be visiting the capitol of this country, to sample how it incorporates other cuisines into its own, combines them, and creates something new."

He nodded to those attendees who were not American. "For those of you who are not aware, today is the anniversary of this country's independence, a day which is traditionally celebrated with huge fireworks displays. Which, not incidentally, we will have a wonderful view of tonight."

The portal showed up, and he gestured them through with a smile. They came out at the Sequoia, with indoor and outdoor dining both open this evening, and a perfect view of the Potomac and the upcoming fireworks. "Please, enjoy yourselves, and ask me any questions you may have."

Well, the holiday certainly explained the squirrels in the radio station that morning. Kanan pursed his lips, faintly amused, even as he reached down to dust at a few scorch marks on his sleeve.

He'd had a long chat with Leroy about blowing things up indoors, after the broadcast.

As there were fireworks, an outdoor table, would be best, wouldn't it? Lucille was excited about both the place, the food and the celebrations.

Kanan found himself a place to sit where he'd be able to take in the fireworks while contemplating the menu.

Perhaps he also should have contemplated the serving sizes. When the lamb he'd ordered arrived, it took him a few minutes of staring at the plate before he lifted it up and tried looking under it to see if maybe the rest of the meal was hiding under there or something.

Nope.

"Hoookay," he said under his breath. "Fancy place. I should've known."

Kanan glanced up at Hannibal, and then gave him a wry smile.

"No problem, Doctor. I was just trying to find the rest of it."

Hannibal chuckled. "That's all there is. It isn't meant to be an entire meal."

"Yeah, I gathered that," Kanan replied, shaking his head and picking up the tiny thing by the bone to inspect it. "Could've gotten a few meals at that price, but I'm assuming the quality is supposed to make up for it?"

He didn't think Hannibal would have taken them here if the food was sub-par.

"It is," Hannibal agreed. "And this way, you can try a number of different dishes."

For roughly the price of what he'd spend on groceries in a month.

Ah well, it wasn't on his credit, anyway.

Kanan took a moment to actually eat the lamb in his hand, and then after a moment's pause, looked sidelong at Hannibal.

"... It would be wrong of me to just get ten more of those, wouldn't it?"

Hannibal laughed. "Not wrong, but perhaps limiting. You might miss other things, after all. Here," he suggested, "try the calamari."

Kanan shrugged and decided to just roll with it. That was the point of taking this class, after all. He pulled the dish toward himself, tried not to think too hard about the serving size (because honestly), and popped some of it into his mouth, taking a moment to process the texture of the calamari - he'd had stranger - and the...

...

He reached for some water.

"I wasn't expecting the heat," he noted, smiling wryly. It wasn't too much for him or anything, but it was a little but of a surprise all the same.

"Dr Lecter?" Lucille approached him, smiling. "What a lovely place."

[Lucille might come across as a little strange. Dante wished her to behave nicely, which might not be too obvious to Hannibal, but he might pick up that something is a little odd.]

Hannibal smiled and nodded to her. "It is, isn't it? It seemed appropriate for the evening. Did you have any questions about the menu?"

"I find it hard to choose," she admitted. "What would you recommend?"

"I've ordered a number of things you can try once they arrive," Hannibal said. "Calamari, mussels - there's quite a bit of seafood, and it's a good opportunity to try it if you haven't had much before."

"I haven't," Lucille said. "My home isn't close to the sea." She had seen images of sea creatures and they did not look tasty or even edible, but she was prepared to be adventurous.

"I look forward to trying them. I also have never seen fireworks, only read about them."
