There was a pitched battle going on in the post office lobby this morning, between Éponine and the thermostat. Every time she'd turn it down to a reasonable, comfortable level, she'd get about ten seconds to enjoy it before the thermostat started ratcheting the temperature either up or down at a steady but rapid pace and she was swearing profusely and stomping back over to try to . . . poke it back into submission.

She could swear the beeping noises it was making sounded like laughter, too.
