The Arms Hotel, Friday

It was possible that Mary had gone a little overboard while stocking up at the party store. The hotel lobby was filled to the brim with balloons and paper streamers. The bell boy was tripping over balloons as he wrestled with luggage and Gunther was frowning as he pulled streamers out of the fruit bowl. But Mary, having learned her decorating style in Las Vegas, thought it was just perfect. So what if the guest register was only accessible if one passed through no less than five balloon arches? Just be grateful that Mary hadn't pulled out the glitter yet.

If you can get past the balloon wall and limbo under a few random streamers to get to the front desk.

"Hello," Archie said, with a smile that said, 'you're lovely, and you want to help me.' "I believe I have a reservation under the name of Grant."

Mary smiled warmly in return. "I'm sure I do. Give me just a moment to check..."

The smile faded a bit as she checked the reservations list once, then a second time, and then scrolled through the list a third time for good measure. "Is it possibly under another name?" she asked.

Archie raised an eyebrow, then took out his wallet. "Hmm. Oh. How silly of me. My corporate card has my former name on it. Try 'Leach.'"

...or possibly he'd been distracted when he made the reservation. Old age was a bugger sometimes.

Mary might have raised an eyebrow at the mention of a former name, but she quickly shrugged it off when she easily found a reservation for Leach. After all, when she worked in Las Vegas, it wasn't unusual for someone to check in under a false name to avoid being associated with the casino.

"I have you in the Astronomy Suite, Mr. Leach. It's one of the best rooms in the hotel," said Mary, looking back up from her screen with a smile. "Will you need assistance with your bags? The bellhop is around here somewhere." Most likely he had gotten trapped somewhere by balloons and couldn't find his way out.

"If you could have them delivered to my room, I would appreciate it. I'm not getting any younger," Archie said self-deprecatingly. "Although I wouldn't want to put anyone out; I understand you have quite the weekend ahead of you here."

Someone might have gotten an anonymously-mailed invitation to 'Parents' Weekend', and was pretty sure that Nate Ford was to blame.

"It wouldn't be any trouble! I brought in extra staff this weekend since it's usually one of the biggest events of the year. And here at the Arms Hotel, we like to take care of our guests," said Mary. She was mostly sincere. Mary enjoyed meeting parents and other assorted visitors just as long as they weren't her parents.

"Excellent. I have somewhere I have to be," Archie smiled widely. "So I'd prefer to examine my room later. You do have room service at all hours, I hope?"

"Any time, day or night," Mary reassured him. Gunther had insisted on hiring a sous chef to do the overnight food orders. "There will be a menu in your room with the number to call and place your order."

"Thank you very much, my dear." Archie gestured to the balloons and general shenanigans with his cane, lips quirking up in a smile. "And good luck with the rest of your weekend. I'll be sure to leave a very large tip for your staff."

It's a big lobby that's completely stuff with balloons, but there's still space to spread out.

Up a little early because I have to be at work at stupid o'clock tomorrow morning.
