Random Bench in the Park, Friday

Shiemi read over her list again. The plants and obvious plant supplies she could get from her new job at the flower shop - or at least she could try. Apparently this shop wasn't as extensive as the one she shopped back home. Though that was likely, she thought with a soft smile, because they had become used to her grandmother's odd and detailed requests before Shiemi was even born.

The rest... well, to Shiemi they were obviously gardening supplies, but she wasn't sure where on Fandom to try to find manure, let alone frost cloths, black plastic, gravel, linseed oil, cleaning rags, a proper hoe and hopefully a scythe... should she fetch her hori-hori from home or try to find a new one here?

She also couldn't find a garden record book for the dorm garden, so she wanted one of those, and the small shed needed repairs before winter started. She wanted to clean up the compost pile, so she needed supplies for that... She sighed happily, despite the length of the list of things she needed to do. It was nice to be thinking about gardening instead of her Exorcist lessons. She was good at gardening.

She was going to sit here a while and enjoy the weather a little more, then go look at stores again.

She totally should have brought a thermos of tea.

Ringo didn't have a list or anything. But she did have a pair of ATs and a mad laugh as she sped through one of the paths in the park. Which would, probably, come as a surprise to no one.

In fact, what might be surprising, was how slow she was going, relatively speaking. Ringo was skating backwards at barely a running pace, looking up and behind her to where her drone was hovering, trying to follow her.

She was still working on the logic that allowed it to keep her in-focus, so she couldn't go too fast.

"Come on, come on," she said allowed. "Don't lose me just because there's the occasional tree."

Shiemi looked up and smiled as Ringo headed her way. "Riiiiingo-sempai!" She waved. "Practicing your backwards skating?"

"Kohai!" Ringo grinned, partially just from seeing Shiemi, partially from the word. It was nice to have a kohai. "Sort of?" She pointed up at the drone hovering overhead. "But mostly I'm trying to get this thing to work right."

Shiemi looked up. "Eh? What's that?"

"A drone?"

Ringo glanced over at Shiemi. "Do they not have those where you're from?"

"I don't know," Shiemi admitted. "I haven't seen one, but I don't know about a lot of things outside my home and the garden. What does it do?"

"Well, generally, they fly around and do stuff. This one has a little camera on it." She pointed, but the drone, not to mention the camera, was tiny, so it wasn't likely that Shiemi would be able to see anything useful from this distance.

Huh. "Why don't you just carry your own camera?" Shiemi squinted to try to see... something other than the drone itself.

"Well, I've got one on my phone, but it's kinda hard to take good pictures of me with my own phone."

"Oh. Well, if the drone isn't working, why didn't you just ask?" Shiemi smiled and searched a moment for her own phone. "I'd be happy to take pictures for you, Sempai!"

Ringo blinked. Then laughed in surprise. "Yeah?" She grinned. "Can you do it from that angle?" she asked, waving at the drone.

"Hmmm. Just one picture or a whole lot? Nii-chan can lift me up but I wouldn't be able to move." Plants weren't known for being mobile.

"Well, video actually." Ringo hopped in place, doing a spin. "You need the distance to get good shots of AT tricks."

"Sorry. I can't think of a way to follow you." Shiemi watched with a small sigh. "That does look like fun. Do you have lots of videos of your tricks?"

Ringo shook her head. "Like I said, it's hard to get the right angle. And I only just got the drone sort of working, so I haven't really gotten much from it. I've got a few, though. Just gotta decide what to send my sisters so they know I'm staying in practice."

Shiemi clapped. "Ooh! Can I watch some with you? It really does look like fun and I'd like to see more. You go so fast."

Another surprised blink, and another grin. "Sure, if you like."

She shrugged. "Or you could come out with me sometime. It's way more fun than just watching videos."

"Come with you?"

"When I ride. There are a couple of decent places on the island, and I'm getting kind of good at teaching people if you ever decide you want to try it yourself."

"You mean you'll really teach me?" Shiemi was amazed. "Really? I promise to do my best and really try!"

"Of course!" Ringo laughed. "I mean, we'd have to get a pair of ATs in your size, but that's no problem."

"Really? Where do I buy them? Ah." She looked down at her list. "Are they expensive? I have a job now, but there are a lot of things I need to get for the garden."

"Pfft." Ringo beamed. "You don't have to buy them. I just have to make sure I know what size shoes you wear, and I can make you a pair."

"You can make them?" Shiemi bent a little to look at Ringo's ATs. "You make your own skates?"

"Well, not from scratch," Ringo admitted, lifting one foot so Shiemi could see better. "But I've got all the parts and stuff in my room."

"I'll need beginner ones," Shiemi reminded her. "And I'm not that graceful." She tripped over her own Kimono when she ran. "But please? That would be fun!"
