Okay, time for another attempt at unpacking the fuzzy scarves. Sparkle was totally going to make the progress this week that he hadn't managed to make last week, just watch. All he had to do was open the box, reach in, and--

And yelp, backpedaling from the box clutching to a bleeding hand as a startled gremlin skittered away to have a nap elsewhere.

"Aw, fuck."

And that was how Sparkle wound up spending the next few hours doing things like pulling a string of scarves out from up one sleeve. Which would have gone much more smoothly if they were silk scarves, instead of big fluffy woolly ones.

He was going to be really choked when he snapped out of it to find that he'd also sawed one of the mannequins in half.

[OOC: This happened because Sparkle's PB likes doing magic tricks as a hobby and I had no idea what to do. La.]

Ringo vaguely remembered that Sparkle worked on Sundays, and given that, as of last week, Ringo had kind of, um, disappeared one of his employees, she decided to go by and make sure he knew. You know, in case no one had told him?

"Hello?" she called as she opened the door to the shop. "Anyone around?"

Sparkle was indeed around! In fact, he was going to pop right up and hold up a deck of cards, fanned out in his hands. One of which had a decidedly toothy-looking bloody mark on it.

"Ah, a lovely volunteer from the audience! Would you be so kind as to pick a card?"

"Uh." Ringo blinked in surprise and confusion.

She sort of reached out reflexively for a card.

"Wh-what's going on?"

"Ah, ah, ah," Sparkle chided. "A magician never tells his secrets. It'd spoil the magic. Now, without telling me what card you have, I want you to look at what you've picked. Remember that card."

Ringo examined the card. Ten of diamonds.

"Ooookay," she said. "After that, do you have a little time to talk?" She had something she needed to tell you, Sparkle!

"There'll be a line for autographs after the show," Sparkle promised, and then held out the handful of cards again. "Now, put your card back into the hand, if you please."

"Au-autographs?" Now Ringo was really confused. But she did as he asked, sliding the card back into the middle of the deck.

"I don't really think I need one, I just wanted to tell you something."

"Alright," Sparkle said, nodding knowingly as he shuffled the cards in his hand. A really, really thorough shuffle, too. And then he grinned, and with a flourish, he held up one card.

Ten of diamonds.

"Was this your card?"

Despite her confusion, Ringo's eyes went wide. "Oh, hey! That's it!"

Yeah, she had something important to tell him, but that didn't make the trick any less cool!

"Thank you, thank you," Sparkle said, and grinned as he took a bow. "You may return to your seat now, Miss."

... Sparkle, there weren't really chairs in here.

Ringo looked around, noticing that very fact.

"Um, does that mean we can talk now?" It was just a figure of speech, right? A weird one that she'd never heard before?

"... After the show," Sparkle replied, brow furrowing a little in confusion. "I understand you might be a little starstruck, but all these fine people paid good money for--"

He frowned a little.

"Uh..."

And another moment still.

"Ow ow ow ow ow little son of a bitch bit my hand."

Welcome back, Sparkle.

Ringo spun, looking around. "What? Who? Where?"

Was something going to try to bite her too? Ringo didn't want to get bitten!

"Gremlin," Sparkle muttered under his breath, looking down at the bite. Oh god, gross. Was that going to get infected? "He was hiding in a box I was unpacking, he's probably long gone, now. I'm going to have to, like, boil my fucking hand or something."

Maybe just start with peroxide, Sparkle.

"Are you sure?" Ringo asked, still spinning around in am ild panic.

Because she definitely didn't want to get bitten by one of those!

[ooc: Whoops! Thought I posted this, but apparently it didn't go through!]

"Dude, how often do you even hear about gremlin bites these days? I scared the shit outta this one, which is why he bit me. If you get bitten in here, I'll give you a free scarf or something."

Sparkle was less with the panicking and more with the rummaging behind the counter for the first-aid kit.

"Actually, that's a good point. I don't know when the last one I heard about was."

Huh.

Which relaxed Ringo enough to fully register what his arm looked like. "Are you okay?" she asked in a sudden rush.

"I'll probably live," Sparkle sighed, setting the first aid kit on the counter and rummaging through it. "Nobody ever died from a gremlin bite. Except maybe of embarrassment."

Which, fortunately, he hadn't really gone crazy enough to have to worry about.

... Except for the mannequin.

"Do you, uh, want help with that?" Ringo asked, clasping and unclasping her hands in an effort not to just reach out and grab at the first aid kit.

Sparkle's mouth twitched faintly in a bit of a tired smile.

"Hey, if you want, I'd appreciate it," he admitted. "It's hard to do this kind of thing with only one hand."

Stupid gremlins, anyway.

Ringo nodded, shoulders relaxing slightly at the chance to help.

"That definitely takes practice," she agreed with a little grin as she walked over and tugged the kit over toward her so she could go through it herself. Fortunately, the bite really didn't seem that bad, so she wasn't going to need much.

Yeah, if it was serious, Sparkle would probably be freaking out a little more. Mostly it was just painful, bloody, and annoying.

"And that's the sort of practice I can live without."

She laughed. "I suppose it might be considered a good idea to not get injured."

"But you wouldn't want to be too scared to have fun just because you might get hurt, right?"

"Hey, having fun, I'll never have a problem with," Sparkle replied. "This happened while I was working. Totally too scared to work, now. Forever. I'm traumatized."

... Well, he was. But not from this.

"Ooooh, I see how it is." Ringo grinned as she set aside some disinfectant and gauze from the first aid kit and turned to Sparkle. "Do you get some sort of compensation for the terrible trauma since you won't be working anymore?"
