Luke's, Sunday
Once again, Kanan came in to a shift with no stacks of pancakes piled up to the ceiling.
This week, he wasn't so certain he trusted it.
"What's the special this week, guys?"
The cook gave him a blank look.
"Do you... know what you're going to be cooking this morning at all?" Kanan hedged.
The rest of the kitchen staff joined the cook in giving Kanan a blank look.
"Do you remember how to make food?"
The dish-washer laid a hand on his shoulder.
...
...
"Fine, make your kriffing pancakes."
So, it was another pancake day today.

Whoo-hooo. Yay family.
Anyway, if Summer came into the Luke's that Sunday looking like she probably should have stayed away from both vodka last night and the phone this morning, that was why. She sat down on a stool, served Bus Driver Guy with a pouty face, and said, "I don't suppose I can get my free pie as well as a credit on the biggest, greasiest burger you can make, could I? I spent all my money on pizza for my party last night and I don't start my new job until Tuesday, but I neeeeeed a burger right now like no one's business."
Pause. "Also, hi."

"I think we can handle that," he replied, sending an order to the kitchen for exactly that."Good party, was it?"
no subject
But, considering the fall-out those big parties always seemed to have, it didn't seem such a bad thing.
no subject
He asked the most important questions, really.

Don't do it, Jarrus.

Because he wouldn't even be able to guess that they were like chalk candy from Hell, no.

She offer to go to the general store to check for him, but the idea of moving too much right now was a very unpleasant one indeed.

"So, adding them to the list of Earth things I need to try," Kanan mused. "Red Bull and SweeTarts. Possibly at the same time."
That would end so badly.

It was almost as if Dr. Lector's class was already rubbing off on her. In all the wrong ways.
"Doing it together is like pairing a plaid top with a different plaid skirt. Way too much of a good thing."
no subject
Okay, but Dr. Lecter's wardrobe of choice generally involved far too much different plaid all at once...
"Uh," Kanan paused, but shrugged his shoulders a little. "Okay, so one at a time, candy first. I think I can handle that. Figure they'd have both at the convenience store, then?"
no subject
They were still a little too pill-shaped for her liking at the moment.

"No problem," Kanan said, reaching for a cup before even turning to look Steve's way. "You want anything in-- ha!"
Guess who'd just turned around to face you, Steve.
"No kidding, that looks better than the thing they had you singing and dancing in!"
no subject
The padding wasn't what was making his shoulders look stupidly large, though. That was just Steve.
no subject
Get on that, Jedi Order.
...
Right. Maybe not.
no subject
It had offended both his soldier and artist sensibilities.
no subject
"Oh, great," Kanan snorted. "So you were a walking target with nowhere to keep anything useful."
Yeah, he was of the opinion that 'useless pockets' was the worst part of it all, himself.

"How in the world did they not even consider that?" Kanan wrinkled his nose. "It'd be like leaving out the holster for my blaster. Especially if they're expecting you to go running into trouble."
He needed his blaster, okay? It was on his hip right now. He only left it behind when he was teaching, and even then, he wished he didn't have to.

Kanan snorted and shook his head.
"I keep forgetting that people think aliens are weird around here," he admitted. "But you don't thaw out a long lost soldier and then kit him out with a cute costume and treat him like a kriffing toy. I'm actually a little insulted on your behalf."

Maybe that was just the way memory worked, when you won the war and weren't immediately double-crossed and wiped out. Seemed almost nice, except that Steve had about as many people left as Kanan did, after all that time.
