Tali had a drone. Not Chatika; someone had dumped off a broken remote-control drone of the 21st-century Earth variety, claiming that it was beyond repair and just needed to be recycled for parts.
She'd taken that as a challenge, especially since she'd managed to get a hold of a minuscule amount of element zero. So now the little formerly-broken drone was not only repaired, it was zipping around the shop more easily than it ought to be able to, thanks to its very own tiny mass effect core. (Not enough to make it FTL-capable, just ridiculously maneuverable.)
As for Tali, she spent all her shift downtime compiling data into her research project . . . and asking JARVIS a few questions every so often. If she was going to be gathering all the information she could on various perspectives about AIs, it would be silly of her to not, you know. Ask the one who was right there.
