Jono squinted up at the marquee, and then down at the stack of papers in his arms. Posters, for around town, yes. He was going to give this another shot, because... why the hell not, mostly. He had the building, it had a stage, and he knew from last semester's band that there was, in fact, talent on the island.

And so...

Best way to make something happen was to just do the bloody thing. He was getting better at that, he hoped.

"If you call this thing Fandom's Got Talent," Dante said, wandering into the building, "I'm a hard no."

He still had traumatic memories of Lilith, alright?

//... Actually, I was mostly just going to be utterly uncreative and call it--// Jono looked at his pamphlets. //'Fandom Island Talent Showcase.' Christ, that's bland.//

Maybe that there was your problem, Starsmore.

"...Okay, that's kinda 90s teen flick," Dante said. He stalked towards Jono, frowning.

[furnaceface]

//Well, I was a teen in the 90s,// Jono pointed out, raising an eyebrow at all that stalking, there. //You have any better ideas, I'm open to hearing them, mate.//

Please. Save him from himself.

"Something that doesn't sound like it'd be painted on a banner and hanging from the ceiling by the school entrance?" Dante suggested. "You could just call it an open mic night, man."

[furnaceface]

//I could,// Jono allowed. //Though around here, I'm not going to gamble that everybody who might want to perform even knows what a mic is. Or is going to want to showcase music.//

Because Fandom.

"The problem is probably that talent showcases sound kinda hokey to begin with," Dante volunteered.

[furnaceface]

Oooh trust him, Jono was aware.

//Never stopped them from being fairly successful in the past,// he noted. //You have any better suggestions?//

[rebelseekspizza]

"Nope," Dante said merrily. "If it was me, I'd be painting a big arrow at this place saying 'Just Do Shit', but..."

He was well aware his own aesthetic didn't work on everybody.

[furnaceface]

//... Don't tempt me, Dante.//

He'd do it. Don't think he wouldn't.

Dante shrugged. "Make it a free-for-all," he said, smirking. "Maybe put out some fingerpaints and shit to get the audience that's not there for talenting to do something."

Was he trolling? Was he genuine? Maybe a bit of both. Maybe neither.

[furnaceface]

//Could be fun,// Jono allowed. //Or at least amusing. Just so long as I'm not getting paint out of the carpet afterwards.//

"Carpet wasn't really a great choice for this place anyway," Dante said. He tilted his head. "Monster goo."

... Anyway, he'd come here for a reason. "But I'll park myself here and play guitar if you don't call me a talent anything."

[furnaceface]

//I think I can manage that,// Jono decided. //Hell, I can't stand it when people tell me I've got a talent, I won't subject you to it.// He tilted his head a little. //How's that guitar working out for you?//

"I like it," Dante said, grinning. "Thinking we should get the band back together too."

[furnaceface]

//What, minus our lead triangle?// Jono couldn't resist the snark, no. //I think that could be arranged. Have any songs in mind yet, mate?//

"Eh, maybe," Dante said, shrugging. "Maybe we should also bang our heads together and come up with some of our own shit."

[furnaceface]

//See, that, I'd like,// Jono replied. //I've got plenty of music already written, but for the purposes of the band it'd probably be better if we all contributed something. Make it ours.//

Instead of just his. Most of his music was depressing and a bit too heavy on lead guitar anyway. Because he'd been writing it with himself in mind on guitar, not bass.

"Worst case, we'll have a good time jamming," Dante said practically. "That'll be fun."

[furnaceface]

//True enough,// Jono agreed. //I'll never complain about having somebody to jam with, anyway. S'why I called for tryouts for the band in the first place.//

And much as he enjoyed playing music with Hannibal, the fact that they had vastly different tastes in music with very little overlap was inescapable.

"And who knows, there might be more people who play real instruments this time," Dante said optimistically. "Y'know... not triangle."

[furnaceface]

//I... might have to make a 'no triangle' note the next time I put up an announcement for tryouts,// Jono mused. //Though, hell, for all we know the island is home to a triangle savant and I'd be shooting myself in the foot by turning them away.//

He did not figure this would be the case.
