Luke's, Monday

So apparently the kitchen staff's alternate selves had had . . . some kind of drama, over the weekend, and now none of them were talking to each other. So when Eliot got to the diner after doing a circuit on the island looking for his partners -- he hadn't managed to keep track of either of them all weekend, so, you know, that was just great -- they hadn't gotten anything put together for the day's menu.

"Big greasy breakfast," Eliot suggested.

The staff blinked at him.

"You know, comfort foods?"

They stared more. Eliot growled.

"Get to work."

Today's specials
Beautiful cinnamon rolls, too good for this world, too pure

Luke's was open.

It was somewhere around midday that Kanan sidled into the store, found himself a seat near the counter, and threw Eliot a wave.

"Hey. I figure you probably get it already, but I thought I should stop in to apologize for missing my shift yesterday."

Kanan returned Eliot's wan smile with a wry one of his own.

"Really, at this point, I don't know if it matters all that much except for on weekends like that," he admitted. "Where I come from isn't exactly the island's biggest secret, these days."

Training with a lightsaber in the park tended to do that, yes.

"But if you're chatting up folks who haven't been around a while, I'd appreciate a little less airing, yeah. I've already had one run-in with one of the Empire's higher-ups while working a shift here, I'd like that... never to happen again, honestly."

"Sure there's more than one," Kanan agreed with a shrug. "But with the number of people around here who are familiar with the one I'm trying to avoid, I'd rather not risk it."

Not counting Hera, he was already aware of two... three... at least a few students. Several teachers. A bartender. Every trooper at the station...

He shrugged.

"My weekend didn't go too badly otherwise, though, no. Got my morning cardio in yesterday. There was a nice breeze..."

"I'm jealous," Kanan replied. "I had to borrow Master Kiwiiks' cloak. And that was after I almost ran into her. Not that I can blame her for deciding that her need for answers was more important that my need to pretend to have some sense of modesty, but, hell, Master Kiwiiks."

A pause.

"Not that... that would mean anything to most people here," he allowed.

"It would be like..." Kanan paused, and frowned, and then sighed and shook his head. "I don't know Earth history well enough to even come up with a good parallel, here. Is there anyone who lived three and a half thousand years ago on Earth who played a huge part in the history of something that encompasses your way of life today?"

Sure, she was no Satele Shan, but she sat on the same council. This was about as mind-blowing to Kanan as first running into Master Rand had been, about a year back.

"We didn't really do deities in the order, unless you count the Force," Kanan replied, shrugging. "What are Arthurian knights?"

The Jedi had knights. He probably would have been one himself by now, if the Empire hadn't destroyed everything. That parallel seemed like it had some potential, at least.

"That seems... like it could be about right," Kanan said, if a touch dubiously. "So, pretend you met one of them, but instead of 'upholding chivalric order' they were responsible for keeping an entire galaxy safe. And you were meeting one of the best of the best of them."

Because... the Council.

"So, who is Robin Hood?"

There was so much Earth for him to learn, here.

Kanan smiled faintly. Yeah, they'd had space travel in his galaxy since well before even Master Kiwiiks' time, their record-keeping had been pretty functional by then. Less now that the Empire had swept through purging their entire history, but that was a different matter entirely.

"Sounds like he'd be a bit of a hero to the victims of the king, too. There's something my galaxy could use, right there."

Ignoring that he and Hera were sort of already doing that. He was still pretending that he was just 'crew,' at this point.

"Honestly, Eliot, it doesn't matter what I do, I'm always going to be on that hit list. Might as well be making somebody's life easier in the process."

... Okay, so now he was entertaining the thought.

"It isn't like I don't have a fast ship and a damn good shot already."

Kanan gave a small huff at that. Something not quite a laugh.

"I wanted to be a hero when I was younger," he replied. "Now I'm mostly just working on sorting myself out. But Hera's big on this whole 'helping people' thing, and I..." He gave Eliot a wry smile. "I don't know. I guess I'm warming up to the idea a little."

Kanan paused for a moment at that, and then tilted his head a little.

"So, what brought you around, then?"
