So apparently the kitchen staff's alternate selves had had . . . some kind of drama, over the weekend, and now none of them were talking to each other. So when Eliot got to the diner after doing a circuit on the island looking for his partners -- he hadn't managed to keep track of either of them all weekend, so, you know, that was just great -- they hadn't gotten anything put together for the day's menu.

"Big greasy breakfast," Eliot suggested.

The staff blinked at him.

"You know, comfort foods?"

They stared more. Eliot growled.

"Get to work."

It was somewhere around midday that Kanan sidled into the store, found himself a seat near the counter, and threw Eliot a wave.

"Hey. I figure you probably get it already, but I thought I should stop in to apologize for missing my shift yesterday."

"Don't worry about it. You're in the one place I know of that callin' out 'bein' a cat' is legit." Eliot flashed him a wan smile. "Now let me apologize: all I said was I had an employee from a galactic empire, but I shouldn'ta said even that much. I ain't lookin' to air your business all over."

Kanan returned Eliot's wan smile with a wry one of his own.

"Really, at this point, I don't know if it matters all that much except for on weekends like that," he admitted. "Where I come from isn't exactly the island's biggest secret, these days."

Training with a lightsaber in the park tended to do that, yes.

"But if you're chatting up folks who haven't been around a while, I'd appreciate a little less airing, yeah. I've already had one run-in with one of the Empire's higher-ups while working a shift here, I'd like that... never to happen again, honestly."

"Fair enough. Though I'd argue there's gotta be more'n one galactic empire in the multiverse. . . ." Eliot shook his head. "All told, sounds like you had a better weekend than some."

"Sure there's more than one," Kanan agreed with a shrug. "But with the number of people around here who are familiar with the one I'm trying to avoid, I'd rather not risk it."

Not counting Hera, he was already aware of two... three... at least a few students. Several teachers. A bartender. Every trooper at the station...

He shrugged.

"My weekend didn't go too badly otherwise, though, no. Got my morning cardio in yesterday. There was a nice breeze..."

That just meant that Eliot's employee could be almost anyone.

"The island does like to enforce the occasional nude scene," he said. "I was probably lucky I turned back from bein' a wolverine here, where spare clothes weren't hard to find."

After the alien abduction, though, he and his team just happily wandered home from the park naked.

"...waffles?" There was a lot more hesitation in that question than there usually would be. "Please?"

"With strawberries and whipped cream?" Eliot suggested. He looked her over, checking for any obvious injuries, then leaned his body in her direction, a Parker-style hug. "You alright?"

"Yeah. Strawberries especially." Parker leaned back into him, relieved he wasn't moving away from her. "I don't know. I have too much stuff in my head. She had too much stuff in her head."

"She was somethin' else, alright," Eliot said. "Can't tell ya how glad I am you're back. You seen Hardison at all?"

"Nuh-unh." Parker shook her head, then let it fall to Eliot's shoulder with a small thunk. "She felt all sorry for the guy he was, but he freaked her out because she was thinking about this guy she was going to drag back into some place in Delaware... I don't even know. And she got her gun back, Eliot." Bleah! "I'm not like her, right? Even with the same name?"

"Course you ain't. She was . . . cocky. Brash. You're competent and quirky."

No words. Hardison didn't need any words. He just walked over, covered in bracken and leaves, and wrapped Parker into a tight hug that was more of a cling.

Parker turned into the embrace, ready to strike, made an indescribable noise, then actually hugged Hardison. Hard. Vise-grip-hard. "You're here."

He knew that violence was a possibility after a weekend like that. It hadn't mattered. He'd just needed her. "Yeah, mama," he said, voice scratchy and hoarse. "Sorry I left."

"I'm sorry I was a psycho who was mean to other-you. And made other-you want to leave." She didn't blame him a bit, come on now. Miss Parker was scary intense, and Noah had been... God. "Do you want a blanket? Or a lot of food? Or both? Or I don't know, booze?" She really wished other-her had given Noah booze. But he probably would've been scared it was poisoned, or a trap or something.

"Food," Hardison agreed. "An' booze. But mostly just, like..." He hugged her again. "I need help rememberin' that all the things he was so afraid of don't apply to me."

Hardison came in, covered in brush and leaves. He'd fallen asleep in the preserve last night, wedged in a tree and it had taken an embarrassing amount of time to get down. Apparently this Noah character was more scared of being found than heights.

From what Hardison could remember, that seemed legit.

He didn't say anything when he came in, just walked right over to his partners and wrapped them into a giant hug.

Eliot hadn't said his name in that tone in a long time.

"He was so--you don't get it, man." Hardison wasn't going to let go for a very long time. "He was smart. He was basically connin' people into believin' he was a broke down slave so he could run if he had a chance. But at the same time..." Hardison shrugged, unable to put it into words. "I dunno. If I had been born in a different time, that coulda been me. I knew that, but I ain't never really got it before."
