Luke's, Sunday
Kanan was actually in a pretty good mood today as he navigated the reconstruction efforts at Luke's. He'd made a pit-stop in his own galaxy over the course of the week to pick up those panes of transparisteel to replace his window at home, and the ones here, like Eliot had requested. Which meant that today, he was framing them up, laughing to himself a little every now and again.
Hey, if Eliot wanted windows that could put up with more abuse than the walls they were framed into, Kanan wasn't going to argue. Around here that was what he liked to call, 'sensible.'

"Hey, Bus Driver Guuuuuuuy."

Or much food at all, really. Though apparently Summer intended to do something about that.

And with dramatic flair, she removed the cover to reveal the true masterpiece of the week. Sure, she was weirdly proud of what she put together for Captain Rogers and Dr. Lecter, but they paled in comparison to this beauty. She had filled a bundt cake pan with blue jello...blue jello where she had also put in shrimp, anchovies, and, naturally, shark meat and some little strips of crispy seaweed. And in the center, she had filled in the hole with green jello, green jello that was filled with green grapes and peas, and she had put a few brocollini trees on top.
"Ta-da! I call it Jellodom Island."

He stared, in fact, with his jaw slightly agape, taking in the... wobbly... creation that was in front of him.
And after a moment of staring, he said, perhaps slightly in awe, "Summer. Summer. You have created art."
Kanan's standards were sometimes so very suspect.
no subject
Summer's standards were also a bit questionable.
"Seriously, though, you're going to want to eat that soon, because that is going to get disgusting real quick."
no subject
"Well, then I think it's about time for a break," Kanan laughed, because he was appreciating this artwork unironically. And somewhat miraculously.
"Hey, did you see any silverware while you were sorting through the dishes last week?"
He would eat this right now, Summer. Right in front of you.
no subject
"Uh, yeah," Summer said after thinking for a moment. "I think most of them ended up over....there? Mostly spoons, though. I have no idea how it happened, but nearly every fork I came across had prongs all bent out of shape."
Should she get medical assistance ready on the phone? She was going to get medical assistance ready on her phone.
no subject
"I've eaten stranger things with a spoon," Kanan replied, shrugging and making his way over to take the... artistic... fish... dish... "So, what all is in this thing, anyway? I can see broccoli and peas... grapes?"
This was partly also an exercise in basic food recognition, really.

And scattered around various parts of the island, along with the sharks.
"So, what part do you suggest I start with? Eat the island from the middle and work my way out, or just dive in and get my final revenge against the shark that came in through my window now?"
no subject
Which would lead to a never-ending cycle of revenge, if you thought about what that jello would do to a stomach of less constitution.
"Just leave some for Miss Hera, too."
no subject
"She did appreciate the one from that picnic that one time," he noted, nodding thoughtfully. "I'll have to run it home early for her, but for the sake of not letting the gelatin melt, I suppose that's a necessary evil."
The fridge wasn't running while there was re-wiring going on, and he didn't trust the freezer to not do horrible things with the Jello.

Of course Kanan had to get that stupid little smile on his face, instead.
"It's just a shame she won't get to see it whole, in all its glory," he mused. "I could record a holo of it, but that's just not the same."
Holos were generally a little more blue, for a start.
no subject
"It would be a pale imitation, anyway," she said. "You'll just have to describe to for her, and she can appreciate it through your appreciate of it. But, hey, speaking of holos, check this out."
Like she could pass up the chance to show off her sweet new tech. Out came her phone and she pushed a few buttons to bring up a holo she took of a squirrel trying to sneak away with one of those little single-serve bottles of a vodka when she was at Turtle & Canary the other day.
"Boo-yah. I got an upgrade!"
And then she pushed the hover button that let her phone just hang there.
"Double upgrade!"
Yeah, whatever, so he already had holographic technology, probably since forever, but it was exciting to her still, okay?
no subject
Hover. It could most certainly play holos.
"How'd you swing that, anyway? You don't see much hovertech at home that isn't for things like vehicles, or assisting with heavy lifting."
Or the occasional floating palace.
no subject
She might have sounded a little defensive on that point, even if no one was making an argument. She just knew her heredity all too well.
"Which will hopefully help if I get it confiscated again when I get home, but I'm going to try my best not to, because that'd be totally uncool to make Peridot go through all that trouble again."
Because it was sooooo much trouble for her, too...
no subject
Kanan was possibly underestimating just how much of a pain in the ass it was to copy everything from one phone to another in this world.
Give him five minutes, a computer, and a couple of USB cables, though...

Forget the complications and technicalities. Summer had her eyes on the real priorities.
no subject
"This is one of those 'sibling rivalry' things?"
He had to check.
no subject
no subject
Mockery, he could comprehend. Sibling or no.
... Of course, he'd been the kid who was always getting teased back at the temple.
no subject
"Absolute mockery," Summer agreed. "And, I mean, I shouldn't feel as proud about it, because it's not like it's that hard, but it does feel a little good that I get to go to this place while he's stuck eating pills after so many years of him being Grampa Rick's favorite. "
But, no, no, it's not a rivalry at allllll, really!
no subject
"Favorite, yeah? Why's that?"
Go on, open that can of worms.
no subject
"Who the hell knows?" Summer scoffed. "He's annoying and he's not very smart, but he's easily manipulated, so that's a point for him. And he's a boy, so I'm sure there's some bullshit misogynistic legacy going on there, too. Also, I don't know how this is possible, but Grampa Rick knows all sorts of aliens and creatures and monsters, studies thtm, works with thtm, researches thrm, yet, somehow, he freaks out over dealing with a teenage human female. Oh, no, that's waaay too complicated and weeeeird. Let's add in the fact that when he sees me, he's probably reminded of my mother and all the years he missed out of with he because he abandoned her, some nice deadbeat dad guilt there. Then factor in that I also remind him of my loser dad, who knocked my mom up with me and tuined any chances of what he would consider a successful life. Morty's not the cause of my family's musery, he's just a symptom."
Summer remembered to breathe.
"That's why this jailbreak is so important. I've gotta prove to him that I'm not my mother or my father and that I'm totally kick ass in my own right."
no subject
"Kark me," he exhaled, grimacing a bit. "So, not a single thing you had any say in, then."
Grandpa Rick was sounding less and less like a guy worth saving, here. But for Summer's sake, Kanan wasn't about to revoke his offer of help or anything, either.
"I'm sorry, Summer. I don't have much," any, "experience in that family stuff, but I can't imagine that's an easy weight to have on your shoulders. Especially since you're about as driven as anybody else I've ever known."
Which was saying a lot, actually, even if it maybe didn't sound like it coming from a roustabout drifter like Kanan.
no subject
"Thanks," she said, beaming quietly, because it was nice after that nice little rant. "It sucks, but it is what it is, I guess. I have a feeling this trip home this week is going to be...important. Significant. I mean, it's gotta be..."
no subject
He was always up for being ranted at over the phone, why not?
