The Park, Friday Afternoon

Once again, Kanan was in the park on a Friday.

Please, everyone, do contain your shock.

This time, though, he'd brought not only Stance, but a shopping bag full of squeaky toys. He'd promised Tip some beanbags, yes, but Halloween had eaten more time than he'd realized it might, and so he was making do with what he could pick up on the island on short notice.

And it was either this, or socks filled with rice. He figured he'd made the right decision.

So if anybody were to come through the park today, they'd find not only Kanan meditating on the grass, but a colorful dalmatian puppy having the time of his life going through all the toys, picking his favorite for his day at the park.

He probably wasn't going to share it with the ducks, either.

"That is the happiest dog I have ever seen," Tip mused as she jogged up. (You see what you'd done to her, Kanan? She was jogging!) "Is that to make up for confusing him every week with talk of how I should be standing?"

"Partly that," Kanan laughed, "and partly because I didn't go looking for beanbags."

There were so many toys.

"I figure nothing in this pile is going to do any real damage to you either, though. Unless you get tackled by the dog, I suppose. But I've had a talk with him already."

No diving on the toys until after Tip had smacked them out of the air.

"This seems like an excessively complicated way to play fetch."

[uncertain_dume]

"It was these or the pebbles," Kanan pointed out, "but since those got the veto last week," he reached down to pick a squeaky frog out of the pile and tossed it up into the air a few times, "I'm improvising."

Stance would love it, though. Make no mistake about that.

"Excuses, excuses," Tip scoffed. "You know I can see right through you."

And she hadn't even run into him on Halloween!

Kanan maybe grimaced a little, remembering Tuesday. Yeah, that had been an interesting experience.

"Well, there's no denying it'd make him happy," he ventured. "Don't you want to make Stance happy?"

With his tail waggling around and a toy car in his mouth that made little honking sounds when he chewed on it?

"Of course!" Tip said, crouching down and smiling at the dog in question. "I just want us to be honest about it."

[uncertain_dume]

"Okay then," Kanan chuckled, shaking his head as Stance trot-honked his way over to say hello to Tip, "we're playing a very convoluted game of fetch today. I throw the toy, you hit the toy, Stance gets the toy."

A pause.

"And then we might have to wrestle it back from him, we'll see how that part goes once we get there."

Some days, Kanan took this training thing very seriously. Other days, they played fetch, apparently. It had been a weird week.

Tip eyed the giant pile of toys. "I think we got a bit before we get to the wrestling," she noted.

"Well, then you're going to be really good at hitting them with your sword, won't you?"

How Kanan managed to make something so ridiculous sound so reasonable was really anybody's best guess.

It wasn't that hard. He was just clearly a crazy person.

"You're going to yell at me if I hold the sword like a bat, aren't you."

[uncertain_dume]

"I might not yell," he replied, "but I might impose limits on puppy playtime."

He went right for the jugular, that Kanan.

"Hold the sword like a sword. If you bring a bat, you can hold the bat like a bat. But since this isn't ball game practice, it's sword practice, you're going to be blocking, not batting."

"Sir, yes, sir," Tip said. She gave Stance a final pat, set her bag to one side, and gave the sword a couple easy swings before settling into the basic stance.

She was getting much better with all this. She hardly even had to think about how to stand, these days!

Steve came into the park and arched his eyebrow up at the dog toy collection. "Did he get his UFO back?" he asked dryly, pointing to the dog.

"He did," Kanan said easily, cracking open one eye and grinning up at Steve. "It's back at home. Most of these, I just picked up this morning."

And then, because he was a terrible person and couldn't resist, he added, "Why, did you want one?"

Steve gave him his very best Captain America Is Disappointed In You look. "No."

[uncertain_dume]

Well. Kanan had gone and personally disappointed America again. And now he found himself kind of wishing he was still invisible.

"To play with the dog," he added, a touch lamely. "Hooboy."

He was a bad person and now he felt bad.

[heroic_jawline]

Steve gave him a quick smile to let him off the hook. "You're just lucky there wasn't a PSA about it," he teased.

[uncertain_dume]

"I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be the lucky one on that count," Kanan replied, giving a little, relieved chuckle. "You put a lot of blackmail material out into the world for yourself, didn't you?"

They must have been paying well, or something?

[heroic_jawline]

"Well, I fight crime wearing blue spandex," Steve said, chuckling ruefully. "There's not a lot of room to go up."

[uncertain_dume]

"There is that," Kanan acknowledged with a wry smile. "I, uh. I'm sorry for taunting you with the toy on Tuesday."

It had been mostly him, he figured he'd give that much.

"It's fine," Steve said. "Weird day, all around."

[uncertain_dume]

"Very weird day," Kanan agreed, shaking his head. "Just when I start to forget how weird this place is, it goes and pulls something like that."

Steve nodded. "At least the party was fun?" he offered.

[uncertain_dume]

"No complaints about the party," Kanan agreed, nodding. "Good to know we can all be... weird... monster versions of ourselves and still get togheter to have a good time. I even met some new people."

He paused, frowned, and then shrugged. "I guess they wouldn't know me to see me now, though."
