Rufus frowned slightly as he leaned back in his chair and, rather than work on putting the bookshop in order (it wasn't that bad off anyway), caught up on news back home.

Most of it was rather bland, carefully cut and dried to present the right image, but Rufus had access to more information than other people did and he could read between the lines.

AVALANCHE was becoming more of a problem for his father.

Rufus didn't smile.

That was what they were paid to do, after all. It'd be a shame if they had let him down.

Okay, sure Peridot worked in the library, where she could get her hands on any book she wanted, temporarily, for free. But she wanted something she could mark up in the margins, and she knew exactly the place to go in order to get something like that.

So, with a shopping list in hand, she walked into the bookstore and immediately started looking around for Rufus.

"You look comfortable."

"Comfortable enough," Peridot decided, and then held up her list. "I'm going to need you to be less comfortable in a minute, if any of these are higher than the bottom few shelves, though."

"Oh?" Rufus was interested. He raised an eyebrow. "What are you looking for?"

Peridot reached up (and up) and put the list on the top of the desk.

It was... extensive, and on every topic from human societal expectations to modern space travel.

"Just a few things."

Rufus picked up the list.

"A few things?" He had a different definition. "I suppose, under a certain definition... how are you getting all of this back to the dorms?"

"I'll call a rickshaw," Peridot said easily, shrugging her shoulders. "It was either that or I purchase a tractor."

She'd steal a tractor.

Somehow.

"...I'm tempted to endorse the tractor idea," Rufus admitted. "If only for the sight of it trying to get up all the stairs."

"Clearly I would lay ramps," Peridot replied, shaking her head. "A rickshaw seems like less work."

But overall far less satisfying in the long run, too.

"Ramps are boring," Rufus said, getting up. "You'll need my assistance for this."

"I will," Peridot confirmed, watching him carefully for a moment before moving to follow him. "I don't intend to go climbing today."

She would if she had to. But she didn't intend to.
