Eliot didn't consider himself to be a very squeamish person -- quite the opposite, in fact. But waking up the morning after Halloween with rabbit tendon still stuck in his teeth had actually been enough to put him quietly off meat for a little while.

Which, two weeks later, mostly meant he was craving beef like crazy. He really didn't know how vegetarians did it.

Between his cravings and the cold snap, which always made him want richer, heavier meals, he figured it was a good time to bust out some of the old recipes from back home. The stuff that really made Hardison and Kathy look at him like he'd gone insane. Nothing hit the spot on a cold, dark evening like deep fried hamburger, okay?

Eliot flicked a dish towel at her hand with no real expectation of landing the shot. "Not until it's cooled."

"But it smells so good," Parker protested, ducking and weaving and going back to her little dance in front of the stove. "I don't care if I burn my tongue!"

"You will when it means you can't taste anything for three days," Eliot pointed out, flicking the dishtowel at her again. "'Sides, it'll taste better when it's cooled, too. All the flavors can mesh right."

Right, she needed to pay more attention to ingredients.

"Is this a pie for an occasion, or an occasional pie?"

"It's . . . a Monday pie." Sure, that was a thing. "You know all the different ingredients in things add to the flavor, right?

Yeah, he knew that was coming. Didn’t make him despair of her any less. “Tell you what. You get yourself anentree, and when you’re done eatin’ that — at a reasonable speed — you can have pie.”

Parker was sometimes suspicious of 'nutrition', since she hadn't had it for years, and she'd been fine.
