Luke's Diner, Thursday
It was the week before Thanksgiving...so of course the diner was featuring Thanksgiving leftover recipes. Why wouldn't they? It absolutely made sense.
"I don't even know what's wrong with y'all" Hardison declared, helping himself to another sandwich. "Y'all gonna tire people out on turkey before it's even the big day." Why yes he needed a second helping of fried stuffing bites. Who didn't? "What are you gonna do next week, huh? Skip the turkey entirely?"
Cook grumbled something and looked away, while the dishwasher snickered.
"Ahhh! Caught you!" Hardison said with a laugh.
Today's Specials
Thanksgiving Leftovers Turkey Sandwich
Fried Stuffing Bites with Cranberry Pesto
Pumpkin Cheesecake
The busboy came running in, nearly tripping over his long, hand-knitted scarf. "We're from the FUTURE--!"
"Too late," Hardison interrupted, cutting himself a slice of cheesecake. "Already figured out the so-called scheme."

Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
Admittedly, the diner she used to live over while one of her favorite people was working wasn't the most horrifically public thing she could have chosen to go with.
"Okay, fried stuffing sounds amazing. Not so sure about cranberry and pesto, though."
Re: Talk to Hardison
This was love, Raven. Pure love.
"Nah, I like it," he said. "The tartness of the cranberries really brings out the earthy flavor of the basil." He paused. "An' you ever tell Eliot I said somethin' like that an I'mma retroactively go back an' fail all your classes."
Re: Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
"Nah, but you could end up havin' to redo your senior year," Hardison threatened. "The whole year, so you don't even graduate until next spring."
Because, sure, that was a thing he could do why not?
Re: Talk to Hardison
Which would look terrible for him.
Re: Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
She had no idea.
Re: Talk to Hardison
"You just keep thinkin' that, TA," Hardison declared, nodding sagely. "We'll see what happens when I have to turn 'em on you for real."
Re: Talk to Hardison
"Are you saying you're already planning to be disappointed in me?"
Re: Talk to Hardison
This was the guy who'd spent his twenty-first birthday joining a crew of thieves. His idea of what one's twenties were like was a bit flawed.
...Granted, he was not expecting the likely 'murder is not our first option, I'm disappointed' speech.
Re: Talk to Hardison
Which, really, was just shortsighted of him.
"Is that an actual thing? I thought that was just something they put in TV shows when they wanted to have a Dramatic Family Moment."
Re: Talk to Hardison
Granted, so had his teens, but in his twenties, he'd been organized.
Re: Talk to Hardison
"I haven't even hit my twenties yet and I walked across a zombie apocalypse," Raven said. "You're still wayyyy more normal than I am."
Re: Talk to Hardison
He was pretty sure he had that right, going by the birthday she'd claimed for herself.
Re: Talk to Hardison
Raven blinked. "Huh. I guess probably." She shrugged. "I mean, I've never really known how old I am anyway. I might have turned twenty three years ago or something. But I guess the 18th birthday party we decided I was going to have was two years ago."
Re: Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
"Works for me," Raven said. ". . . What day was it again?"
Sorry, her priorities had shifted pretty hard there for awhile.
Re: Talk to Hardison
"August nineteenth," Hardison said, giving her a fond smile. "Eleven days after mine."
Re: Talk to Hardison
"Does that mean we have to compete over who gets the better party?"
Re: Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
"It is? Why?"
Last time she'd paid much attention to drinking ages, it had still been 18.
Re: Talk to Hardison
Re: Talk to Hardison
That was so cute. She'd literally just said she didn't know how old she was, but he was going to pretend like she didn't do things because of her age.
"Wait, why can't I rent a car? I mean other than the whole bit where I don't really know how to drive."
Re: Talk to Hardison
"Cause kids dive fast an' stupid or somethin'," Hardison said. "supposedly sometime in the next five years you're gonna learn to be cautious." Beat. "An' drive."
Re: Talk to Hardison
"I could probably technically drive if I had to," Raven said. "I can ride a motorcycle!" The fact that she hadn't died trying to teach herself that on the road from LA was a minor miracle. "There seems to be a lot that we just assume people magically will be better at when they reach a certain age."
Re: Talk to Hardison
Wait, no not Parker.
He wasn't Eliot, but he was still capable. "I think it's just that we assume folks'll mature up an' stop takin' stupid risks as they start understandin' mortality."
Re: Talk to Hardison
“That seems short-sighted.”

Re: Talk to Hardison
"You know I grew up here, right? I actually haven't left America very often."
