Luke's, Sunday
You know, the great thing about Sundays normally being about pancakes was that Luke's was completely equipped for this sort of weekend already. Especially since, fortunately, the cook was also an adult. Kanan would have hated to have to evict anybody from the kitchen for the sake of safety today, especially since he wanted to be out front where all the interesting stuff was bound to happen.
Today's Specials:
Pancakes - Choose Your Own Toppings!
French Fries and Ketchup
Milk and Cookies
If anybody needed Kanan, he was the guy looking eminently amused, leaning against the counter and eating fries.
[OOC: Open, though probably SP. I'm starting a six-day project at work today, and don't know if DW is locked out at this studio, but it's certainly going to be crunch week on a show I don't know, so...]

She shifted until she was comfortable, sat up very straight and proper, and folded her hands in front of her on the counter as she said, very politely, "I would like some pancakes, please, and a milkshake. Mmmm..." Her face twisted a little, eyes rolling up to give it some thought, even if she knew exactly what she wanted, and she nodded as she came to the conclusion she'd already made. "Strawberry."
no subject
"Strawberry milkshake and pancakes, huh?" It really didn't take Kanan any time at all to place his favorite Sunday regular, no. He gave her a warm little smile and a knowing nod before adding, "Would you like strawberries on the pancakes too? Or maybe chocolate?"
no subject
Even if she was going to then completely drench the attempted winterscape with way too much syrup.
no subject
"Hey, great choice," Kanan said, and even gave her a thumbs-up to best demonstrate his approval. "I would have had the exact same thing if I thought about it."
And if he hadn't gotten more than his fill of sugar at the party last night. He now knew what regret felt like. Well. Sugar-related regret, anyway.
"So, how's your day going?"
no subject
She stopped to take a breath.
"And how's your day going?"
no subject
Kids would never cease to baffle him.
"I mean, I'm at work," he replied, blinking out of his stupor after a moment. "So not much has really happened except for the coming to work part. But there are cookies. No complaints about cookies, right?"
no subject
She cleared her throat, pushed herself on the counter enough to lean forward to whisper to him, although it was a pretty loud whisper, "....raisins in them?"
no subject
"What do you think I am? A monster?" Kanan gave Summer a grin and shook his head. "I'll protect you from the raisins, don't worry. I was thinking something with a little more chocolate, myself."
no subject
"Can you crumble some cookies and put them on my pancakes? And maybe mix some in my milkshake? And then maybe put some on the side like a...uh..." What was the word? "Granish."
Close enough. She'd picked it up whenever her daddy went into one of his "gourmet" phases every few months or so.

"I have money and I'm not disruptive," she said, clearly trying to preempt some expected argument. "I have my mom's permission to be here by myself."
Tip's mom was very confused by the text messages she was getting from her daughter this weekend, but yes, she had given her permission to go into town and get food all by herself.
no subject
Aw, Tip. You were kind of stinkin' adorable, did you know that?
"I wasn't worried," Kanan promised, giving her a little grin. "Don't worry about the money, we have deals for kids today anyway. What'll you have?"
So. Damn. Cute. Kanan didn't have much experience with kids, but that didn't mean he didn't enjoy this weekend so far.
no subject
Nothing in this world was actually free, after all.
no subject
Hey, Kanan couldn't fault her for that. He was suspicious these days, himself.
At her age, maybe he wouldn't have been, so much.
"You need to answer a skill-testing question before you place your order," he deadpanned. Because he had to come up with something that sounded at least halfway legitimate, here.

"I never went to business school," Kanan replied easily, giving his shoulders a shrug. "Your point?"

"Do the cookies count under 'kids eat free'?"
no subject
"Only if you have some french fries or pancakes first," Kanan replied, because he wasn't entirely horrible and didn't actually want Eliot to spend the rest of the day with a tummy ache, here. "Or maybe some chicken fingers. They're actually pretty good."
... He'd been sampling the cook's wares today, himself.
no subject
This was the best diner in existence.
no subject
"Tough life, isn't it, buddy?" Kanan gave Eliot a little grin. "But the plus side is that you get to pick what kind of cookie after your fries, so it isn't a total loss."

no subject
Hey, it had dairy! That was like another food group!
no subject
Then spun around on the stool again. "So french fries! And uhhhhh. Something with protein, I guess?"
no subject
"Yeah? Chicken fingers? Something with peanut butter?" Other... something something protein... Kanan had no idea what kids liked around here with protein in it, so he was just kind of rolling with it.
Especially since at that age, he never would have given it any thought.
