Luke's, Sunday

Kanan stepped into the diner and was immediately blasted with Christmas Carols.

...

"I feel like I should be admonishing you for this," he noted. "It's still November."

"But it's after Thanksgiving," the busboy pointed out.

"And you can't deny they're catchy," added the cook.

Kanan couldn't deny that.

But he was putting his foot down on starting an open fire in the lobby for roasting chestnuts.

Summer may have paused a moment with a particular glare toward the speakers when she walked in the door, but she shook her head, shook it off, and proceeded to the counter.

"I take back everything I said about you being a good dad," she announced pointedly (with love) as she settled on her usual stool. "Cookies for breakfast? Seriously? Your children will all die of diabetes before they're twelve."

"Yeah, well," said Summer, "I probably wouldn't have eaten it. I did, however, make this for you when I got back to the dorms after my playground excursion."

And she produced from her purse a little booklet tied together with a binding of pink yarn, only about ten pages long, and she set it on the counter and pushed it forward for him. On the front, he'd find a crayon drawing of a little redhead girl and some dude with a ponytail (that was...probably him?) and the oh-so-charmingly childishly scrawled title of "COOKIE COOKBOOK by SUMMER SMITH, age 6". Inside, he would find the many various cookie-inspired recipes that he had so easily encouraged last week. Not only cookie pancakes and cookie milkshakes, but maybe you might like to try cookie salad? Or spaghetti and cookie-balls? The double-bacon cookie-burger was sure to be a hit! All of them with helpful(ish) scribbles of all that delicious food.

Summer fully expected to see this shit hanging on BDG's refrigerator if she ever visited his apartment.

"Just can't hold yourself back from a hot dog made of cookies with chocolate sauce instead of mustard, huh?" Summer asked, and she shook her head. "I guess I missed my calling. I could have been a Michelin star chef by eleven!"

"Just...don't try them all in one fell swoop?" Summer suggested. It was common sense, sure, and he seemed to have a pretty good grasp on that, but you never knew. Her grampa was a certifiable genius and spent most of Thanksgiving as a pickle, so...she wasn't taking anything for granted. "Although, if you do, maybe Miss Hera will hold back your hair while you blow cookie chunks all night."
