Demon Marcus, Sunday

"Aaaah!"

Sparkle was beside himself today.

"AAAH!"

He'd gotten in a shipment of winter clothing.

"OHMYGOD."

All the hats were stinkin' adorable. They had kitty ears or bunny ears or dinosaur spikes or monster teeth, and he was absolutely taking home one of each of them, just watch.

"I'm glad it's just a suggestion," Breq said. "Not that I question you taste in hats."

She was deliberately not smiling this time, despite it being meant jokingly.

And shaking someone's bare hand was so beyond Radchaai improper that no one had ever tried to do offer it to any of her officers. Considering that Sparkle had met Seivarden, Breq wondered it this wasn't intentional.

She, however, was no longer a Radchaai tool, and had no reason to follow Radchaai propriety. She took Sparkle's hand, returning the handshake.

"Likewise. And, since we're ignoring all kinds of propriety, would you tell me what pronoun you want me to use for you? I prefer not having to guess, and possibly getting it wrong."

"Good," she said. "It makes things easier."

Looking down at the clothes, she continued: "I should be going. I've appreciated your help, and I'm sure I'll be happy with these."

Breq picked up the bag and smiled at Sparkle. "Thank you. And if you need help with mending clothes at some point, let me know. I have some experience."

Two thousand years of mending her officers' clothes.
