Luke's, Tuesday
Mitsutada had been employed less than 24 hours and he was already contemplating whether he should quit.
Not because he disliked the work, but because on his first day the kitchen staff kept trying to egg him into going outside and slicing falling marzipan fruits with his sword.
He was absolutely not going to do that. It'd get him all sticky, not to mention it chafed him a little every time he heard them use the word 'ninja'. He was not a ninja!
Instead he busied himself with cooking to make sure today was a good first day on the job.
Today's specials
Tonkatsu Sandwiches with a side of Edamame
Vegetable Tempura
Takoyaki
Luke's was open!

Talk to Mitsutada
Eventually.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He stepped inside and shook the marzipan pieces off of his umbrella.
"I am sensing a theme in the specials today."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He gave a small bow to the man. "Welcome to Luke's. I am Mitsutada, and I am happy to serve you."

Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He took a careful bite of one of the balls and smiled. "You are new to the island, then?"
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Time travel really wasn't a big deal to Mitsutada. "I am finding it quite agreeable here, though I miss my compatriots back home."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He tapped a finger against his eyepatch, just to be dramatic.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He was curious how well his cooking had gone over.

Re: Talk to Mitsutada
"A'ight, y'all quit it," he said when he walked in, glaring at the busboy chanting "Fruit ninja! Fruit ninja!" as he washed the tables. "Leave the poor new guy alone."
The busboy listened to him about as well as he always did, sigh.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Yet. There was definitely an unspoken 'yet'.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
That was said with a glare towards the busboy, who continued to ignore him. Sigh. "They're pretty good at comin' up with ways to annoy you, no matter how patient you're tryna be."
He offered Mistutada a smile and a nod. "Nice to meet you. I'm Hardison, Eliot's boyfriend. I heard about you gettin' hired an' figured I'd stop by an' say hello. Make sure you're settlin' in okay."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He gestured around. "It is a rowdier atmosphere in the kitchen than I am used to, but only because I have yet to establish my leadership among the staff. I think I can do so, in time."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
It wasn't even the first time it had happened! Hardison really needed to come up with a new way of saying that.
"You come from future Japan?"
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He nodded along with Hardison's question. "I do, though I would not call it futuristic. I do not have a laser pistol, for instance. Nor robot parts."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He headed towards his favorite booth, nodding towards the other man in a silent request to join him. "Well, now I'm disappointed," he said with a laugh. "No robot parts or laser pistols? Disappointin'. So what brings a man from future Japan to modern-day Fandom, then?"
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
"Curiosity," Mitsutada said with a shrug. "I am investigating on the behalf of another, at least for now. It is definitely a new experience for me. I didn't realize how settled I would need to become."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He glanced outside at the desultory fall of marzipan rain. "Well, maybe not so much this time of year."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Please no more aliens to ruin his love of aliens, island.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He shook his head. "This was a nicer place when I thought it was all sugar rain and transforming into animals."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Mitsutada nodded down at where his tachi sat, tied to his belt. "Luckily it is something that I know quite well."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
It was him after all. Mitsutada didn't just bare himself on the first date, so to speak.
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Hardison was guessing a yes.
"Yo, he'd respect that. Not barin' a sword unless you were plannin' on usin' it."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
"Swords have to have purpose," Mitsutada agreed. "And I am grateful for a chance to have one here."
...Slight oops, there.

Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Yes, he'd missed that part, somehow.
"What sort of classes do you teach?"
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
Weird that. He remembered it being a little different a couple of years ago, but maybe that had just been Raven and Kathy.
"I taught a couple of different classes. Real random stuff. One about keepin' yourself entertained in the summer, another about preppin' for danger or somethin'. Most of my skills aren't things folks want their kids learnin'. Or would take more'n seventeen weeks to teach."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
He paused, realizing that was not a normal sentence that people said. "When I was younger, I mean, sorry about my English."
Re: Talk to Mitsutada
"Them summer days can be long an' boring," he said with a smile. "Gotta learn how to fill 'em up with stuff that won't get you in trouble."
You know, like learning to be a criminal hacker before puberty and getting barred from Iceland before you graduated high school.
