The Park, Friday Afternoon
Kanan had his lightsaber on him as he stood in the park today, no different from any other time, really.
There was also a light sheen of sweat on his furrowed brow as he stood a few paces away from one of the slugs that had been roaming the town. He'd cut a few down earlier when they'd come after him, but the more they did, the less certain he was that he was doing the right thing. That he even had to fight, even though his instincts had been screaming that he ought to right up front, that these slugs were full of darkness, and something worse still had been the cause of them. It was doing his head in, now, and while he still had his lightsaber close to hand, it was clipped to his belt, unlit, and all he was holding out to the creature was an empty hand.
Make a connection. Maybe these things could be reasoned with.
Maybe they were supposed to be here.
Maybe they were good, and those that they were attacking had it coming to them, after all...
That had to be, right?
That... had to be...?
His head hurt. He laughed, not entirely certain where that laugh had even come from, and reached to stroke the creature gently along the side of its... face.

"We're petting them now?" he said, unable to keep such a question just in his head.
They were ugly slug creatures. Surely that made them evil?
no subject
... But yes, they were evil.
"You're welcome to try," Kanan said, looking... slightly dazed, mostly. The slug creature purred into his hand. It was about as weird as it sounded, yes. "I just have a way with animals. You might lose your hand."
no subject
He eyed Kanan for a moment and decided discretion might be best, here.
"Should I leave you alone with your new friend?"
no subject
"What, you think we need alone time?"
With a giant slug? Come on now.
no subject
Definitely nothing Kanan was doing. Especially not that laugh. It reminded Mitsutada too much of that creepy bag that Nikkari was enamored with.
no subject
There would be other slugs. They'd worried him at first, but now they seemed perfectly fine. Why had he been concerned about them at all?
"And what could I possibly throw for a slug to fetch?"
Bones, maybe... He tilted his head thoughtfully.
no subject
"A stick is what is normal, isn't it?" Mitsutada said. "We've not really had any dogs back where I'm from, so I don't know for certain." There was a turtle, a horde of baby tigers, and foxes, but no dogs oddly enough.
no subject
He squinted back at the slug.
"... Don't know why. They seem okay."
... Didn't they?
He was so confused.
no subject
Were slugs even insects? These weren't things that Mitsutada looked much into, beyond learning ways to keep them off the tomatoes in the Citadel fields.
no subject
He actually looked down at himself to check. With a ring of teeth like those, it probably would have been obvious.
no subject
He only had the one, but it was capable of a lot of side eye.
"Has it... slobbered on you?" Mitsutada asked. This was getting rather gross.
no subject
"No?"
He didn't sound so terribly sure.
no subject
He paused.
"Maybe leave the slug here."
no subject
He squinted a bit.
"Not completely... feeling myself."
Stringing together thoughts was getting progressively more difficult. Stringing together coherent ones, anyway.
no subject
"Some udon will help," Mitsutada said. "I'm going to go start cooking some, but I'll speed it up a bit. I promise to delver it soon." Normally good udon would take hours. He backed away slightly, not exactly wanting to take his eye off the slug, then turned to leave.

Force, why couldn't he finish an entire simple thought on his own? He looked back at the slug, who tilted its... head... at him curiously.
It seemed to want him to pat it some more, maybe? He'd just... do that for another minute. And then he'd... what was it he'd been told to do? Leave the slug here.
