Luke's Diner, Saturday
Miguel had no intentions of opening the diner today what with everything going on.
He was, however, going to go there and make sure the staff had been smart enough to stay home.
He facepalmed. "Okay, look," he told the cook, "I'm impressed you showed up and your work ethic's great. Now let's get you home in one piece, okay?"
After that, he'd be coming back to run the busboy home.
Then the dishwasher.
Apparently none of them had a self-preservation instinct.
Lukes was...sort of open, until Miguel got everyone home safely.
[OOC: Open post! Feel free to drop by when Miguel's there or when he isn't.]

Her conversation had deteriorated since the last time she'd visited this place, but she remembered there had been food here.
The bow and arrow looked very well-used as she snuck in the side-door.

"Huh. Okay, sure." Miguel looked around, but heck, it was probably as safe here as anywhere. "Want me to cook you a burger or something?" He waved at the stove and headed for it, careful not to come to close to her.
no subject
Fooooooooooood. Her stumble rumbled ominously.

He seemed... nice. And so, she wasn't going to lead with the knife or arrow.

Crap, he was turning into his mother. Only with slightly less crazy.
"You want some fries, too?" The cook had started the fryer, and it wouldn't take much to get it back up and running. Miguel started it up and searched for the fries. He had a feeling her answer would be yes; call it a hunch.

He found the fries and dumped them in the fryer before checking the meat and turning it over. "Cheese?"
no subject
"Mi-guel," she whispered, very quietly. Sometimes she could manage that, words for a little while. She made the sign-language sign for thank you, and looked around carefully checking for any threats.

He got out the cheese, set it to grilling on the burger, and found some green beans he could throw in the microwave. Vegetables were good too, right?

She opened the freezer door and stared. Then looked back at Miguel, and then at the freezer, pointing. The sign language for WHAT? was made without her even realizing it.

She glanced out the window to check on the landscape, eyes flickering fast. There was a slug out there, approaching the diner. Her eyes narrowed.

He felt her tense and followed her gaze. "I locked the door," he told her. "That ought to keep it out." So far the only abilities he'd seen from the slugs were biting and being big and ugly, none of which would get it through whatever the front of the diner was made of. "This place is tougher than it looks."

As an incentive, he shook out the fries onto a plate next to the cheeseburger, then added the green beans. Wasn't that better than shooting slugs?

But FOOD beat out everything. Hanna grabbed the burger and took a huge bite, then stopped, her eyes rolling in bliss.
CHEESEBURGER.

He reached back into the fridge for a couple apples and set them down in front of her.

You are a God, Mr. Miguel.

"Do you have someplace to go?" Miguel asked. "Someplace safe?"
He checked the fridge, found some orange juice, and poured her a glass of that, too.
no subject
Fries, fries, fries. She didn't have fries in the forest, though. Nom nom nom.

"What brings you out here?" Miguel asked.
no subject
-- explosions! A big portal! The end of the world! --
...so, the usual. She shrugged and picked up her burger again, nearly finished with it now.
no subject
"So, you came to help, or you got forced out of your place?" he asked.
And set a plate of three more sandwiches in front of her.
no subject
Hanna held up her finger for that first one, and nodded. Then made a see-saw motion with her hand for that second one, because, well... her lips wibbled a little, and then she was biting into another fry. Maybe if she stayed her long enough, she'd forget what that place was like.
no subject
Miguel frowned. So she had a safe place, maybe, but she clearly hadn't eaten well in a while, and she was here to help against whatever was going on, which according to radio might have something to do with portals...
"Are you from another dimension?"
no subject
Hey. That was her name!
She pointed to herself again. "Hanna."
no subject
"Is there anything we need to know to stop the -" he repeated her gestures of explosions, portal, end of the world.
