The Park, Friday Afternoon
So, it was another just-below-freezing one today, which, perhaps predictably, wasn't about to stop Kanan from his regular Friday training in the park.
At least this time he'd had the bright idea to bring hot chocolate. He'd ordered one for himself and one for Gratuity, but for some reason - one that actually wasn't his fault - the machine at the Perk had refused to stop pouring, and rather than pour it all down the drain, Kanan had promised the Baristas that he'd find a good home for the several extra cups worth of hot chocolate that had been filled before they could figure out how to make it stop.
Kanan had reached across the counter and smacked the machine, and that had done the trick. Several years of odd jobs around the galaxy had taught him to never underestimate the power of a good, solid thump.
Anyway, here he was, lightsaber in hand, training sword and hot chocolate sitting on the park bench nearby, in case Gratuity needed seconds in order to stave off the chill or in case they wound up with more spectators again this week. Either worked just fine for him.

She headed towards the bench.
"That looks like a good way to keep warm."
no subject
He grinned faintly and gave his lightsaber a spin in his hand.
"Which part looks like a good way to keep warm? The hot chocolate, or the exercise?"

Kanan also happened to be a big fan of dessert.
no subject
Breq took a sip of the hot chocolate. "Dessert. I've never had much dessert before."
Before arriving here. Ancillaries weren't given dessert, or even tea. Breq would never admit to herself how much she liked dessert.
no subject
Admittedly, he preferred fruity things over chocolate, most of the time. But now and again...
no subject
"Anything else you would recommend I try?" Breq asked, because of course she should try things when she was here, shouldn't she?
no subject
"Depends," he mused. "Ice cream? Milkshakes? Is there anything here you've tried already that you wouldn't mind more of?"
no subject
But she'd had a lot of pizza.

Oh boy.
no subject
Oh sure, Kanan, give your student a stomach ache before getting started on the weekly workout.
"I think I'll stick just with firsts," she said. "You might have to resign yourself to having a bunch of gone-cold chocolate later."
no subject
That was how that worked, wasn't it?
no subject
Tip smirked at that. She was still of an age to find adults doing typically-kid things amusing. "Big fan of chocolate milk, are you?"
no subject
"I can neither confirm nor deny that I've got a terrible sweet tooth," he replied, returning that smirk. "But... yes. I do, in fact, like chocolate milk."
And pie. And cookies. And...
no subject
Tip was fifteen. Everyone over the age of about 22 was firmly in "adult" territory (and therefore not to be trusted).
"Do you make bubbles in it with the straw?"
no subject
That didn't stop him from replying with, "Come on, that's the best part."
no subject
Tip had a firm mental image, now, of Kanan sitting on a stool much too large for him, idly kicking his heels in the air while he slurped chocolate milk through a crazy straw.
"Alright. I guess that's fair."
no subject
"Life's too short to not blow bubbles in your chocolate milk."
It was way more fun with blue milk, though. Not that he had a bias at all.
no subject
If Tip could read the narrative, she'd be rolling her eyes and wondering why the color of the milk mattered.
But she couldn't.
"I'll try to remember that, oh wise sensei."
It was going to go down in the history of jedi training quotes. Right up there with "do or do not, there is no try" and "I said, 'Seagulls! MM, stop it now!'"
no subject
Not even bad lip reading Yoda.
"There's your first important lesson for the day, yeah," he chuckled, shaking his head and shutting off the blade of his lightsaber. "Catch."
And then he was tossing it in an easy underhand toward her.
