The Park, Friday Afternoon
Hey, whoever could have predicted that Kanan might be in the park this Friday afternoon, wielding his lightsaber and running through forms while he waited for his student?
... Besides basically everybody, by this point, perhaps.
Still, here he was, falling into step, stance after stance, trying to dredge up those old motions that he hadn't touched in ages.
He was doing better today than he had the last time he'd done it. Or maybe he was just better at not beating himself up for his missteps. Either way, he was going to consider it an improvement.
[OOC: Open park! Got distracted by a job offer, but I'm here-ish!]

"Do you ever practice with it after dark?" she asked as she finally approached. "Because with the light from the blade, I bet you could get some gorgeous effects on film."
no subject
"It's a little more conspicuous after dark," he noted. "Which has been something I've sort of avoided for a while, now."
He squinted a little, though he looked more puzzled than anything.
"Is that a camera?"
It was so archaic.
no subject
"Yup. We're doing a photography unit in art class. You realize you're pretty conspicuous anyway, right? It's not like you're hiding."
no subject
He tilted his head at the camera again.
"So you're supposed to... just take pictures?"
no subject

"You want me to come back after dark and run through a few forms then?"
He wasn't opposed to it, really. He was well aware that the draw here was the lightsaber, and he was up for running forms at any time of the day.

"Fortunately, I missed the usual Jedi cloak phase," he replied, amused. "But I have a long coat. It... mostly survived all the hell it went through back on Gorse. There were explosions involved. Falling rocks. And acid."
And some electrocution for good measure. Kanan's first trip back home in a long while hadn't been a great time.
"But after dark, that shouldn't make much difference."

He really didn't have an eye for that sort of thing.
That would never change.

"Maybe this weekend?" Tip suggested. "Then I don't have to worry about not staying up too late on a school night."
She didn't actually worry about that, but Kanan was an "authority figure", so she felt the need to pretend.
no subject
"Sure, this weekend works for me," he replied easily. "Tomorrow night? Sunday night? Either is fine, it isn't like I do much at work on Sunday except babysit the Pancake Squad anyway."
And greet customers and take orders and prepare the occasional milkshake, sure.

Again, not something that was super likely. But still.

That had been his job up until recently, and he'd been dropping the ball on it. Who was revelling drunkenly without him?
no subject

Granted, he'd spent about as much time passed out on the floor behind the bar as he had actually serving drinks behind it.

Kanan actually kind of missed Kasmir. That dirty tuft-sucker.
no subject
She'd just been talking about racism post-slavery in class that morning. She was all set up not to take that joke lightly.
no subject
"For the bounty money," he clarified. "I was supposed to be dead, and I kept irritatingly being alive. He figured we could make some easy credits turning me in to the authorities and then busting me out again."
He paused.
"I didn't take it very well, the first time."
Kasmir hadn't exactly given him a heads-up.
no subject
The guy was a pirate, Tip, honey, what did you expect?

"We should talk about something else now, shouldn't we."
no subject
Because 'Kanan' and 'working through feelings' were not two great tastes that tasted great together.
Hell, he'd named himself after the man. If loosely.

Great. Now tip had him referring to his lightsaber as 'she.'
no subject
She accepted the hilt, but didn't turn it on yet. Something told her not to take that "she doesn't take well to anger" thing seriously. "So do you do any art stuff?"
no subject
"What, me? Besides this, you mean?"
... Swordplay was totally an art.

Kanan was an incredible actor. He acted like a total asshole all the time.

It wasn't even 'okay.'
In fact, it was a huge mistake. But hilarious, provided you were also drunk. And tone deaf.

He gave it an easy twirl in his hand. Not a move he'd recommend Tip try with the lightsaber. And then he slipped into his ready stance.
"Let's run over those advanced drills again. Then, next week, it'll be sparring." A beat. "Not with the lightsaber."
He enjoyed actually having a sword. And a face. And a life.

There was a lot of tuft-sucking involved.
Kanan was never going to explain just what sort of naughtiness that was in reference to, considering the Kallerans were a hairless species.

"Hey, BDG!" Summer called out, lifting her camera and giving it a little shake. "Lemme get a shot of you and your glowy sword!"
Consider it a warm-up for all the shots she was going to try to snag at the diner on Sunday.
no subject
"Sure," he laughed, not really thinking that far ahead. "It's a pretty popular sword these days, apparently."
He didn't so much strike a pose as he just stepped into the next part of the forms he was running through. Which was basically just the same thing as striking a pose, but with discipline.
no subject
In fact...
"Well, it's a cool glowy sword," she said, taking a quick snap of his first form, and she moved, too, trying to test out different angles and directions. "It's interesting, cool use of color, not a bad subject for a photography project. And maybe next week, we'll learn how to Photoshop the dork holding it out of the picture."
no subject
"They give grades for floating lightsabers these days? Hell, that'd be an interesting picture, I might have to ask for a copy of that one."
Jedi, minus Dume. Basically a metaphor for whatever this was he had going on these days.
no subject
"That would be pretty interesting," Summer had to admit. "I'm sure there's some sort of technique you can use when you develop the picture to get an effect like that or something. I'll have to ask Mr. Hardison in class next week."
no subject
Or he could just use the Force to make his lightsaber float. That was an option, too.
He had not yet gotten that far in his thinking processes.

She was going to fill half her roll with horses, of course, cackling the whole time.

[sorry, last night got away from me!]
