Sparkle could be going to China right now. Right now. But instead he was being a responsible part-time college student, and staying behind for the sake of finishing up projects and actually attending his class on Wednesday.

So, naturally, he was kind of sulking today at the shop. Why wouldn't he? Sure, the idea of actually being a chaperone to a bunch of teenagers on a school trip abroad didn't super appeal to him, but it sure beat sticking around here, doing battle with faux fur.

At least his day picked up a little around noon when he realized he'd gotten in a shipment of cute raincoats sometime during the week and they needed to he put out on display. Flowers! Cute fruit patterns! Foxes and pandas and frogs! Yes!

It was no China, but it was still delightful.

Issa was finding Seivarden's gloves to be the perfect toys, and she got away with it because she looked adorable while playing with them. That meant Seivarden needed a few new pairs though, and she would try to keep them out of reach from the cat.

"Good morning," she greeted as she entered the shop. "How is business going today?"

She wasn't actually being ironic.

Which was actually almost impressive.

"I mean, half the population of the island is going on vacation today," Sparkle said, holding up a raincoat that was patterned to look like a tiger, complete with cute ears on the hood. "So I'm pretty sure it's gonna be dead here until all the students come back. But hey, I'm not going to complain. I can use some quiet from time to time."

He lowered the raincoat again, and then nodded toward her. "Hey, Seivarden."

"They are?" Seivarden said. She hadn't been paying attention and wasn't interested in what the students were doing anyway.

"Is that for dressing up as an animal," she continued, noticing the raincoat. "Or is it some kind of local fashion?"

Sparkle looked at the raincoat, and then shrugged his shoulders.

"Really, it's for keeping dry," he replied. "But sometimes people want to be cute. This one lets you run around looking like a big cartoon cat. Not my style, really, but I can see the appeal."

Seivarden couldn't, but she wasn't going to argue about it.

"Well," she said. "I hope it makes someone happy. I'm looking for new gloves."

Sparkle... was not exactly surprised, no.

"More like the pair you got the last time?"

"I like those," Seivarden said. "Although if you have a few different styles to choose from I wouldn't mind trying them on too."

She got along better with Sparkle now than she had done last time, so she felt it would be less awkward.

Sparkle gave his shoulders a shrug.

"Gloves for anything beyond keeping your hands warm aren't exactly a great seller here," he admitted, "but we do at least have a couple of things in your size."

He'd made sure of it. He gestured toward the glove display.

"If any of those are to your taste."

Seivarden made an effort not to comment on how people only used gloves against cold here. It would only get Sparkle in a bad mood. She crossed the room and began looking through the gloves, holding some of them up to see the size.

"I got a cat," she said. "She thinks gloves make great toys."

[intraspective]

Ino breezed into Demon Marcus.

"I come bearing hot chocolate," she announced. She also had a bag of muffins. "And I demand entertainment in return."

How Ino had friends was really anyone's guess.

After losing touch with everyone for like two years, Sia was making an effort to not do that again, especially when it was even easier to lose touch these days. So, when she had a break today, she sent a text.

How are things going?

[myownface]

"You know they make actual toys for cats already, right?"

Sparkle actually sounded teasing, there. Mostly he was curious about the cat, though.

Seivarden glanced at Sparkle. So she was to be teased about this?

"She doesn't like those as much."

Because she was a stubborn cat.

[myownface]

Sparkle blinked up at that, and then broke into a little smirk.

She had friends because she sought out people who were just as terrible as she was, clearly.

"I'm thinking 'fashion show,'" he drawled.

[myownface]

No complaints! Which is weird, actually. I usually have something to bitch about. How are you doing?

Apparently the cute raincoats had him in an improved mood already.

[myownface]

"That's what catnip is for," Sparkle replied, smiling shamelessly. "But hey, they're your gloves, I guess. What's she named?"

"Issa," Seivarden replied. "I'm not sure she likes catnip. Or maybe she likes me trying to take the gloves from her more."

She tried to sound annoyed, but there was definitely a hint of fondness there.

[myownface]

"She probably sees it as you playing with her," Sparkle mused. "My cat used to do that too, when I had him. Moving toys are way more fun than ones that just smell good."

"I've figured out she likes that, yes," Seivarden said with a sigh. "And I've tried playing with the toy instead, but I think she thinks it's more fun when I actually want to catch it."

She added another pair of gloves to the pile she was going to try on.

"I'm going to keep the new ones away from her."

She glanced at Sparkle. "You used to have a cat?"

Same as usual. Mostly meetings while traveling. Which meant she had plenty to bitch about but felt wrong complaining. Did something good happen?

[intraspective]

... Point.

“Fashion show, huh?” Ino settled herself on a corner of the front counter and offered him his drink. “Does that mean you got interestin’ things in?”

[myownface]

"Yeah, I had him for a little while, but I couldn't bring him back to Toronto with me when I left, so I gave him to one of the students at the school. And my roommate doesn't like pets, so I can't get another one. Maybe a cat for around here? But that's not really the same."

[myownface]

"I mean," Sparkle said, a little scoff in his voice, "when do I not?"

Ino, what did you take him for? Give him a little credit, here. And just look at those cute raincoats. Look at them!

[myownface]

I did good on that test I was studying for! And I'm missing the school trip, but I don't mind too much. How stupid have the meetings been?

They were meetings. He was sure they sucked.

[intraspective]

She was looking at them! They were damn cute and she was possibly going to buy one.

That wasn't going to stop her from being a brat.

She grinned at him.

“Are you sayin’ there ain’t never been a time your store weren’t topped off with only good things? Never any bad?”
