Luke's, Sunday

Today was actually a pretty normal day, at Luke's. The kitchen staff had gotten their weird animal costume thing out of their systems. Pancakes were being cooked. Nobody was trying to dress Kanan up in anything stupid. But there was some sort of family reunion event going on over at one of the tables at the far end of the diner. They'd specifically requested that the table be away from any windows in order to avoid injury for any of the family members, which Kanan had thought was a little weird, but at least he was polite enough not to say anything about it.

The kitchen staff was looking at him like he was a little crazy when he opened the door to let the family in-- a good many of them, tinier than most sentients that Kanan was used to, but dressed in little hats and scarves, and actually fairly polite. They ordered a few plates of pancakes to split between them all, and were happily minding their own business, beeping and chirping and being a generally adorable little family all the same.

Today's Specials:
Pancakes
Popcorn
Birdseed

"You, uh, know those are finches, right?" Asked the busboy, looking at Kanan a little sideways.

"Don't be rude," Kanan replied, glancing back at him. "They're some of the best behaved customers I've ever served."

"Yo, BDG," said Summer, coming in quite a bit earlier than usual on her way to the causeway, bogged down with the largest suitcase she owned, a duffel bag, a backpack, and one of her bigger purses, "you can do shakes to go, right?"

"Yup!" Summer said proudly, because it was so nice to be able to actually prepare and pack for a trip instead of just being flung wildly into something like back home. "So better make it a small. I don't know how well it'll travel through the portal, but I gotta have my shake, you know?"
somethingwithturquoise: (good idea hatching)

"Mmmmmm," she set down her bags for a moment to sit down, quickly glancing at her phone to see how much time she had; she was still probably good for a small visit. "Strawberry. That way I can kind of pretend it's somewhat of a healthy breakfast, because fruit."
somethingwithturquoise: (just so happy right now)

[personal profile] somethingwithturquoise 2018-03-04 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Summer certainly wasn't going to even try. "Exactly," she said enthusiastically. "See, you totally get it."

She smirked a little, folding her arms on the counter and leaning forward while she waited. "So," she offered, "you think you'll be totally bored around here with probably more than half the population of the island shipping off to a foreign country, or you think you'll keep yourself occupied somehow?"
somethingwithturquoise: (so high right now)

"Awww, man," Summer said, with the expected sardonic lilt, snapping her fingers, "if I'd have known I could have gone and shot at storm troopers, I would have...." pause for dramatic effect, "still have gone to China. I mean, how many chances am I gonna get to go to China?"

Which was...a weird statement if you only thought about it a little bit, but if you thought about it more and remembered that Summer had been to more planets than she had other states, even...it kinda made sense.

"Well, that's different," said Summer, "unless you're also throwing in an all-expenses paid resort visit in there, too. I mean, what the hell is that all about? Not that I'm complaining, but school trips here are nuts."

And she was a little pissed off that she'd only be getting two of them.

"Of course," Summer said, who totally didn't have another bag inside of one of her current bags that she totally didn't plan to stuff with souvenirs or anything, too. "Any time we do something cool, I'll make sure to totally spam you with pictures and texts to rub in your face that you're missing something really cool."

And then a thought struck her and her head tilted, "You know, they say you can see the Great Wall from space and next time we have a lesson, we are totally going to see if that's true so I can be all, 'I've totally been there!'"

It was the start of break week, which meant things were about to be really quiet. Perfect time to go pester his favorite employee.

". . . Are you having some kind of bird party?"

How was it that after all these years Fandom could still surprise Eliot.

"Did they actually order the birdseed, or. . . ?"
vdistinctive: (idea-face)

[personal profile] vdistinctive 2018-03-04 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, Eliot noticed that.

"They ordered . . . pancakes." Right. Okay. "They're not students, are they?"

Eliot had been a wolverine, you never knew.

"Birds don't typically have family reunions," Eliot said. ". . . In diners."

He had no idea what they did in trees.

"Nah, see, your trouble is this," he pointed to the birds. "Ain't an Earth thing."

Though considering that the squirrels reported the news and apparently required law enforcement was making that harder to say firmly that it wasn't a Fandom thing.

"It's not a -- I don't have a hang-up." Look, Kanan, you flipped when you found out dogs here had fur. "I just ain't seen it before is all."
