"We're having a lazy day," the cook announced the moment Kanan had walked in through the door. "Everyone at the school got to go on vacation, we're all taking ours today."

Everybody agreed with a firm nod. Well, everybody except for the dishwasher, who was sulking a little, muttering something about scraping the crispy bits off the sides of the dishes.

Kanan shrugged.

"Sure, so long as there's food."

Kanan wasn't entirely certain when they had crossed the line from 'taking a vacation today by making effortless food' right on over into 'making so many different casseroles that they might as well have just stuck to the usual Sunday menu,' but he also wasn't terribly surprised when it happened.

He still wasn't going to help the dishwasher scrape those casserole dishes out, though.

Summer always gave at least a cursory glance at the specials board when she came in, but this Sunday it required a bit of a lingering look, and not only to just read all of that.

"Are casseroles the new pancakes?" she asked as she sat down, sounding not exactly pleased if that was the case. She leaves for China for one week, and...

"There are still pancakes," Kanan said quickly. And then paused, frowned a little, and looked back suspiciously toward the kitchen. "There had better still be pancakes. I don't think the pancake casserole they've got going on back there actually counts."

He paused.

"I can beat up the cook until he makes pancakes for you if he refuses. Either way, there'll be pancakes if you order them."

"See," Summer said, after a moment of narrow-eyed consideration, "now I'm torn. I gotta admit, a pancake casserole sounds...interesting? And still fits under the general pancake umbrella. But, on the other hand, you beating up the cook?" She sucked in a breath. "Tempting on principle alone."

"Sometimes you just have to beat up the cook," Kanan replied, grinning and giving an easy shrug of his shoulders. "Though it'd probably get me into some pretty deep crap with Eliot. I might have to settle for picking him up and shaking him a little."

Which could still be fun for all involved! Except the cook.

It's what he deserved for putting pancakes in a casserole!

"I think a nice shakedown's a good compromise," Summer nodded sagely. "I mean, I'll still get it. The pancake casserole. But we can't let him start thinking this is okay."

"Sundays are pancake days," Kanan agreed. "It's a rule he established himself. He can't go ahead and break his own rules. That just won't do."

Kanan gave her a little wink.

"So, what kind of pancakes should I shake out of him today?"
