Kitty hadn’t been around most of the day and hadn’t heard what was going on, or she wouldn’t have gone to the bar to pick up an extra shift. They didn’t have a regular Friday bartender, she could stand to do this more, so why not?

The bar was open a couple hours before sunset, and let’s all be grateful Tino hadn’t figured out the cocktail thing yet.

"My classes are over," Paris announced, "so get me your biggest White Russian."

Or not. She had no idea what she was ordering.

“Of course,” Kitty said, reaching for a bottle. And, only because it was Paris, asked, “Why a White Russian?”

"Well, I did some research," Paris said, "and this one sounded the least gross."

Kitty always felt a little weird serving students, but this was proooobably a case where she didn’t have to worry, with that explanation. So she finished off the drink, slid it over, and said, “In that case, one non-disgusting celebratory drink, tah dah.”

Yeah, Paris had said least disgusting but Kitty also took pride in her work.

“Kinda figured that with words like ‘disgusting’ and ‘research,’” Kitty said with a little smile. “But that’s okay, it’s not for everyone.”

"Figured I could use some liquid courage now that I'm a rising senior and already two weeks late on my spreadsheet of what I need to get finished before my college applicatiosn are due," Paris said.

"Your bar wouldn't stay open very long if it wasn't," Paris granted, "though the lax age enforcement probably helps too."

She lifted up her drink. "Here goes nothing."

Instead she lifted the water glass she had behind the bar in salute, for solidarity.
