Breq had found a box of something she identified as cassettes in a box in the storeroom. They were all labeled 'mixtape', sometimes with a 'for' someone. There was no clue to what was on them.
Which was why she had to spend the day listening to music that she guessed was from a few decades ago, recorded in very poor quality. In the box was also a compact kind of player and headphones to go with it, and she was pleased with her discovery. There were some really good songs on some of the tapes, and the Silence could glare at her all it wanted.
