Community Center Class: Modern Earth Entertainment

Peter waved at everyone as they settled in. "I thought we'd start with something really old today. Movies have been around about a century now, and the technology's been advancing over that time, so the original ones didn't have sound or color and weren't as life-like as more current ones. I realize that's pretty far back for most of you, but Metropolis is still a classic despite being over ninety years old, so I hope you enjoy it."

He pressed the button on the remote for the DVD player, which started, stopped with a very non-mechanical screech, then started up again as a gremlin ran off, cackling.

"Hey!" Peter darted forward, but it was gone. The movie started playing, and it was...definitely not Metropolis, but nothing he could do would stop it or change it, so after a minute, he gave up, sighed, and said, "Okay, so we're watching this. Probably revenge for yesterday. Let's just hope it's not traumatizing."

There are again bowls of popcorn and plenty of soda and beer. Grab your preference, grab a plush seat or beanbag, and prepare to watch the movie.

Seivarden grabbed her own bowl this time too, together with a beer, and found a plush seat.

Hopefully this wouldn't be too annoying.

Kanan was actually in a pretty good mood today, feeling more at ease than he had about... basically anything... in weeks. He grabbed himself a soda and a bowl of popcorn, and then deposited his ass in a beanbag and made himself comfortable.

Yeah, week well done. Nothing was going to ruin his evening, damn it.

Peter grinned and sat down next to him. "You're in a good mood."

"I had a productive day," Kanan replied, grinning back at him and shrugging. "Had a good talk with my TA. Went to Amaya's to check out her sword collection. If you're looking to replace the sword you gave up, she'd be the one to ask, by the way."

There you go, Amaya. Free advertising.

"That sounds like a good idea," Peter said, glancing over at her. "Did you find one? I wouldn't mind more sparring."

"I did," Kanan agreed, grinning. "It's on loan for the time being, but once she gets that forge of hers set up, I intend to get her to make me something a little more personalized. Still, it'll be good for sparring for now."

"It'd be nice to have something a little more me than the one I have now, too," Peter admitted. He missed his actual sword, but since it had really been that other him's...

"I'll definitely have to talk to her." He grinned back at Kanan. "See you on Friday, then?"

"Looking forward to it," Kanan replied. "It's been too damn long, man. I'll see you then."

"Well!" Amaya said brightly as she grabbed her popcorn and beer. "At least this one can't be worse than the first!"

So, naturally, she was bracing herself for it to be worse. So, so much worse.

"I have no idea." Peter had liked The Sound of Music, and he'd never seen this one. "Good luck?"

"Thanks," Amaya snorted a little. "I think I'll be good as long as there's not more singing. There's not singing in all these movies, is there?"

"Not in all of them," Peter said. "We can probably try to avoid those if you don't like them. There are tons of films. What do you like?"

"I'm not real sure," Amaya admitted. "Last week's was the first movie I'd ever seen. But..." She rubbed her chin with a finger thoughtfully. "I reckon I'd like something with a lot of action. And adventure! Some high stakes on the high seas or knights fighting dragons. And explosions! Oh, man, the more explosion, the better, I figure, I think I'd like to see that in one of these movies. And not so much of that mushy stuff, either. Less mush, more thrills...I think."

"We've mostly been trying to avoid those kinds of movies because of trauma," Peter confessed. Then again, kids' movies had proven remarkably traumatizing, so. "I'll see what I can find."

And Amaya didn't know what to think of that. Trauma, huh? She couldn't think of what to say, the concept a little beyond anything she could grasp too well except, well, in a way, all that mushy stuff was pretty traumatizing for her, so it seemed a bit like a game they wouldn't be able to win.

"Thanks," she nodded after a moment, because that was usually a good response to anything. "They don't even have to be too explode-y, either. Maybe...just a little."

Something to make up for the singing, really.

"I'm sure there's something out there that'll work," Peter said. "I may have to look around a bit, but I'll find something."

Apparently at least a few gremlins resent the macrame.

"Hey, two for two," Kanan mused by the end of the movie. "I don't hate this one, either."

Maybe it was just his good mood today? Whatever. He'd take it.

"Well, it wasn't what I planned on, but maybe we should thank the gremlin." Peter shrugged.

"Who knew they'd have decent taste in holos?"

Movies. Whatever.

"I'm not sure I'd trust them past this one," Peter said, "but yeah."

Well. Amaya didn't hate it? She liked it better than the last one, and not only because this one wasn't a singing one. She found it a little...bewildering in a few parts, but exciting in others, and concluded to herself that this is why you just didn't pick up strange pets from mysterious merchants in dark shops...especially after they've advised you against it!

He's got a sheet for writing down suggestions for future weeks on; he will also take them in person. Help the boy out!
