Kanan came into work today, braced for madness, and what he had been met with instead of madness was coffee.

... Just... a lot of coffee.

He cast a questioning look toward the cook.

"Blame Miguel."

"Ooookay."

"Why do you guys keep insisting on making specials that are just going to end in Kitty making sad faces at the menu, anyway?"

It was because they were evil, wasn't it?

Kitty cane in... and sighed at the menu. "Why."

Summer was pretty sure BDG wouldn't mind the incoming gif of puppies by way of greeting this week, and she was sure he could at least sympathize for the following statement that came in.

I miss Stance!!

"I'm told we're supposed to blame Miguel for this," Kanan said, shaking his head and sighing. "If it happens again, I promise I'll go back there and shake the cook."

THIS WAS TWICE NOW. TWICE.

Is this a hint that you want me to come visit and bring the dog or something?

He could have typed a longer reply, but he really wanted to get back to watching those puppies.

They were so... so floppy...

"Thank you. My hormones and I appreciate it," she said. "And I'm trying not to ask how much caffeine is in the pancakes."

"Almost certainly too much," Kanan sighed. "Even the torte has coffee in it. If you ask really nicely, I might be able to arrange a few moments of just going back there, picking up the cook, and shaking him. But you'll have to make a good case for it."

"Im too lazy to make a case for that, but like, if I had a bite of one it probably wouldn't be a problem, right?"

Ask Dr. Kanan.

"I'm mostly certain that small amounts of caffeine are still fine," said Dr. Kanan. "But might just make you want it even more, and then I'd have to take coffee pancakes away from a potentially very frightening woman."

He had a self-preservation instinct. Somewhere in there.

"Yes, go shake people, you just made my case for me."

Maybe she was joking? She didn't even know.

Kanan smiled faintly at that and gave her a thumbs-up.

"What would you like me to have them make for you as penance for this insensitive behavior? Sky's the limit."

Minus coffee.

"The Kitty with banana. And honey on it. And a strawberry milkshake but with like a sprinkle of coffee on it so I feel better."

She wouldn't even be able to taste it, but that wasn't the point.

Kanan nodded and wrote all of that down, not that he needed to, but it was all the better for slapping it down on the counter next to the cook and making demands.

"Coming right up," he replied. "... The banana and honey sounds really good, actually. I might have to try that one sometime myself."

"Right? I'm actually kind of going I don't get sick of these flavors because I'm hoping to be able to try it without my brain body making everything weird," she admitted.

"Well, I'll order two plates of it and report back, if you want a non-pregnant perspective," Kanan offered. "But it's hard to go wrong with fruit and honey anyway."

"That actually sounds like a challenge, but one I would absolutely not try until November," she said thoughtfully.

"Well, then we have a plan for November," Kanan laughed. "Try to find a fruit that isn't improved with honey. I'm certain there's no such thing, but I'm willing to do all the appropriate testing to find out."

Kanan's sweet tooth would no doubt help with that one.

"I've seen enough Food Network to know you're tempting fate, but that's okay," Kitty said. "I'm going to have so many plans for November and I'm going to have to be awake for them."

"And there'll be coffee, then, too," Kanan chuckled, "so I'm pretty sure you'll be set. Besides, from what I've heard about parenthood, you're not likely to be anything but awake for at least a few months after she's born."

"First eighteen years, I hear. I'll just make sure to make plans ahead of time, and then warn Clint he has to get her at night so I can try fruit combinations the next day without being a zombie," she said.

"Let me know when that's going to be, and I'll even swing by my own galaxy to pick up some fruits from there. Best to get as wide a selection as possible, after all. For scientific purposes."

Kanan figured his priorities were completely sound, here.

"I like your sense of commitment," she said approvingly.

"There's no point in doing anything if we're only going to do it by halves," Kanan decreed. "For a fruit-and-honey venture like this, you have to do things right."

... He really needed to start approaching all aspects of his life with that attitude.

"I feel like this all makes sense when we became friends over throwing fish," Kitty realized.

"It fits pretty perfectly that way," Kanan agreed, his tone bright, "but I'd really rather not ever have to do a reenactment of those circumstances, either. The Escape smelled like shark for months."

"Also it's still the weirdest thing I've ever done. It's good that we got to do it once, but never again," she agreed.

"Never again," Kanan replied. "Though knowing our luck, now the island is going to go out of its way to do something weirder."

Controlling the weather wasn't unheard of, but the 'via frozen shark' method was a little unorthodox.

"You know you probably just jinxed us, right?" Kitty checked.

Kanan just grinned and shrugged his shoulders.

"I kind of figured that you saying 'never again' had already done that," he admitted. "But if things get weird all of a sudden, I won't argue if you decide to pin that one on me anyway."

"I said never again about throwing the sharks from the ship, not other stuff," she pointed out. "Shark jinxing is on me, weather jinxing is on you."

"I'll accept that," Kanan chuckled, shaking his head. "We got the rainbow rain the other week, I want to hope we get a break for a while after that, but I will accept full responsibility for whatever stupid thing falls from the sky next."

Hopefully it wouldn't be a dangerous stupid thing.

Please be a fun stupid thing?

Knowing his luck probably not.
