"Hey." Peter waved at everyone and gave them a lopsided smile. "So, it looks like this semester is over. I hope you all had fun. I haven't exactly decided if I want to keep doing this, so let me know if you're interested?"

He waved at the TV. "So, last film. This one was recommended to me. It's animated, so it's drawn pictures instead of live filmed?" And probably a lot more traumatic than the live things, if history was anything to go by.

"Enjoy."

You know the drill by now.

Sure, Kanan was here. Sure, Kanan was prepared for an animated movie.

Couldn't possibly be as bad as some of the ones he and Peter had seen before, right?

Seivarden wasn't sure what to expect from a movie of drawn pictures, but she'd find out soon enough, she supposed. Meanwhile, she helped herself to a drink and a private bowl of popcorn.

Amaya hadn't known what she was really getting herself into when she signed up for this thing, but she had enjoyed herself, even if some of the movies weren't quite to her tastes. The variety was good, though, and she understood the purpose of trying to do a wide range, and she felt better off for it.

Also, the drinks and popcorn never hurt, either.

It's ~~meta for~~ a good one.

After this one, Peter may give up entirely on anything animated.

Kanan settled in to watch. Aw, big sweet dumb droid.

Big... psychotic... murder weapon droid...

By the time they got to the heroic sacrifice part, he was alternating between staring at the screen and glowering at Peter. He wouldn't be able to hear the word 'Superman' without thinking of his Master, now.

Peter was just facepalming. His face lived in his palm now. He was not ever, ever trusting an animated movie again.

Seivarden frowned a little, confused. "Do the heroes think the machine is a person?"

Kanan glanced at Seivarden, and then shrugged his shoulders a little.

"They've probably never encountered an example of inorganic sentience before," he offered. "The giant is thinking and reacting the way a person would."

... Droids were a complicated topic back where he was from, so he was coming at that answer a little sideways, yes.

"Yes, well, but they're not people," Seivarden said. "Which doesn't mean it's a good idea to just destroy it."

"Destroying it doesn't seem to be working so well for them anyway," Kanan noted, looking at the screen. And then he shrugged. "There's a whole multiverse out there, though. Maybe somewhere, they are people. Droids are complicated enough where we're from, with varying degrees of sentience."

Take, say, Chopper. Smart enough to be pissy about it.

"Well, I suppose it could happen," Seivarden said. "It just comes across as a machine with a limited skill set."

Kanan snorted a little at that.

"I've known humans who are far less useful," he pointed out. "That might not be the most accurate rubric to judge by."

"True," Seivarden said. "I suppose I just don't expect people to be made to be useful."

She put a few popcorns in her mouth.

"Machines aren't really people where I'm from."

"Yeah, I got that impression," Kanan replied.

It neatly sidestepped the first few things to go through his mind, everything from Breq and what she'd told him right on down to how plenty of people were barely people where she was from, either.

"The multiverse is such a big and varied place," he settled on, instead. "And we'd be doing a disservice to discount all droids entirely, especially when there's no limit to just how real they might be able to become. It might not make sense, but most things about the universe really don't once you think about them too hard."

"Yes, I suppose," Seivarden said. "This place doesn't make sense at all, after all."

"Hell, I keep waiting for home to make sense," Kanan pointed out, faintly amused and kind of... surprised? Surprised that she was willing to entertain his logic on the matter at all. "I'm pretty sure here's a lost cause."

Had Seivarden stopped to think about it she would have realized that constantly arguing with someone was quite draining, and this was, surprisingly, almost easier.

"There's not making sense and being completely insane," Seivarden pointed out, making a gesture with her hand. "I'm not saying that everything makes sense in my universe either, and especially not outside the Radch, but at least we're not regularly turned into younger versions of ourselves or have it rain sweets."

"That said, I don't have any complaints about the sweets," Kanan replied, smiling a little. And then chuckling and shaking his head. "But we don't have that problem back home, either. Fandom's insane. I don't think there's any other word for it."

"I agree with you there," Seivarden said, the laugh that followed mostly because it felt so strange saying that to Kanan.

It felt about as strange hearing it. Kanan turned a faintly amused look in Seivarden's direction, not entirely sure he'd ever get used to this weird change of heart between them.

"Keeps us on our toes, at least. That has to be worth something."

And it had a funny way of encouraging unexpected changes of heart. Or, at least, mutual understandings.

"So, uhhhh," said Amaya, after the movie was finished and she had totally not been dabbing at her cheeks a little with the back of her hand, "who do I gotta talk to about repairs on this place? I think there might be a leak in the roof."

Riiiiight where she just happened to be sitting.

And that sniffle? Obviously just allergies.

"Are you ok?" Seivarden said, offering her a handkerchief. This wasn't the kind of movie that would make her cry, but she was always prepared for it.

"Just dandy!" said Amaya, clearing her throat, her already deep voice seeming perhaps a little more husky than usual, as she waved away the handkerchief. Her eyes drifted upwards, totally not a measure against any natural and acceptable response to a sad movie, but clearly because she was inspecting the possible source of this strange leak. "Only a little concerned about the roof here, can't help wondering when the last time they had someone look at it...gotta keep on top of those things, or you'll have all sorts of trouble down the road."

Seivarden smirked, but didn't comment on it. She returned the handkerchief to her pocket.

"Talking about repairs, how is the new house coming along?"

More than happy to change the subject, Amaya grinned a little. "Coming along great! I haven't even really had to fix too much of what the kids did for class, they're a real good bunch. Tomorrow's the last day, of course, so we'll be taking it easy, but we'll pick it up in the next session with the rest of it. Should be gettin' the materials for the forge itself pretty soon here, too, so I might even be able to get in a little smithing in here and there as well. Everything's been going nice and smooth and according to plan, just how I like it!"

"According to plan is usually a good thing," Seivarden said. "Not that I have any experience with houses specifically."

He's here. Probably sobbing.
