The Beach - Monday afternoon.
Almost a week away, several days spent doing nothing more than racing a motorbike through some winding mountain roads and trails, had done Kaidan some good. Bumping into a mainlander friend had been a pleasant surprise, and given him several things to think about.
His morning run had been a bit more strenuous than usual, bringing him around to the beach. It was a warm day and the sun was out, with some cloud cover to dim the bright sky and make sunglasses unnecessary. Kaidan strolled along, searching for flat stones. After filling his pockets, he found a place where he wouldn't accidentally hit anyone with a misfire, and began, in the grand tradition of Boys On The Beach In Fandom, of chucking stones. Most of them skipped nicely, but a few were pure plunkers, since his mind wasn't really on the activity.
