Mitsutada had some particular whims today as he dictated what was going to be made in the kitchen on special today.

Okonomiyaki
Pineapple Curry Fried Rice
Fish Tacos

Okay, whims was probably the best term, as opposed to being particular. Mainly Mitsutada was relieved that this week, his class would have a guest that wasn't going to try and scare anyone or share a particularly traumatic backstory. Thank goodness.

Luke's was open! and ocd-free.

Liam was currently cat-shaped, yes, but he was also still himself. While he couldn’t exactly do much good at the station given his lack of opposable thumbs, he could at least keep an eye on things around town. Which is definitely all that had brought him here, yep.

Mitsutada looked down at the cat and rubbed a thumb under his lip against his chin.

"Did you need something?" he asked the cat, wondering if it would have any ability to answer.

Hey, it was not out of his realm of experience.

He did. He needed to make sure everything was going smoothly over here at the diner.

Also maybe some fish tacos.

"Milk?" Mitsutada offered, thinking this over. "Fried tofu?"

"Wait, no, that's foxes."

“Mrrr,” Liam shook his head slowly and deliberately. Tofu? He would pass, thank you.

"Well at least it seems like you understand me," Mitsutada said. "Well, what is it you want? I don't have any mice for you to chase. Or are you wanting one of the specials?"

Liam shot Mitsutada a look that was vaguely offended. Chase mice, him? Please.

He did wander over to the specials board and lift one paw to touch where it read “fish tacos”.

"So you want tacos," Mitsutada said. "Or just the fish?" Mitsutada thought about it for a second.

"Do you want the fish cooked?"

Liam cocked his head, considering. And then nodded. He may look like a cat right now, but that didn’t mean he wanted uncooked food.

"Get me some fish!" Mistutada shouted to the back room. "Cooked, apparently."

He turned back to the cat. "Did you want to be petted?"

Liam considered that; while he was, yes, mostly himself, it was entirely possible that some bit of cattishness was also present, because he did not entirely hate the idea.

“Mrrr,” he said after a moment. He would allow it.

Mitsutada came around to get close enough to squat down and give the kitty some pets. As he did so, out came a kitchen staffer with a plate of chopped and grilled fish to set down for the kitty.

The staffer may or may not then have prepared to take a video of the kitty for their Instagram.

Ooh, food!

... It was probably for the best that Liam had no idea what an Instagram was, or else he might have tried to stop said staffer.

Kaidan went to carboload before the fight, because he knew he'd burn those calories off in the next few hours. The larger-than-average-size cat gave him a moment of pause, but then he made a direct line for it, possibly muttering, 'kittyyyyyyyy' under his breath.

Liam, run. You're about to be petted.

Liam’s ears twitched and he swiveled his head towards the source of the noise.

Kaidan. There was something he needed to talk to you about, something about going in to some tunnels alone, according to radio?

Unfortunately since talking was out of the question, he had to settle for just giving Kaidan an extremely disappointed Look.

That look probably wasn't going to improve when Kaidan started petting him. Which he promptly tried to do the moment he was within reach, because: kittttyyyyyy.

Agh, no! Liam was supposed to be annoyed with you, Kaidan! Don’t you dare distract him with scritches. Liam ducked out of the way, tail twitching.

Kaidan frowned, but stopped and backed away a few steps.

Liam gave Kaidan a slow once-over. It was hard to tell given that the whole tunnels thing was now several days past, but he certainly didn’t look terribly worse for the wear due to it. Still.

Have you ever seen a cat sigh, Kaidan? Because that’s what was happening right now

Kaidan was fine. The slime monsters, not so much. He hoped Rosa made it out ok.

"Mitsutada, why is your cat sighing at me?" he asked.

"What did you do to the cat to make it sigh?" Mitsutada retorted from behind the counter. He was cleaning a class, old-timey bartender style.

"Tried to pat it," Kaidan said, a note of exasperation creeping into his voice, "That's what you do with cats."

"Did you ask first?" Mitsutada said. "It might not want to be touched."

"Kitty, do you want to be patted or no?" Kaidan patiently asked the cat.

"No, I hadn't asked it. Generally one doesn't ask animals."

Liam cocked his head at Kaidan and then twitched his tail once, twice, before finally just nodding.

Kaidan would get the ‘please avoid going off by yourself when you have plenty of backup’ lecture when Liam was fully himself-shaped again.

Kaidan was going to deserve that lecture. He already kind of knew it, and had been guiltily trying to get ahold of Liam. He had no idea that's who he was scritching.

"Are you a student, citizen, or just unusually clever cat?" Kaidan asked it. He had the suspicion it was one of the first two. But hey: Kitty.

“Mrr!” That would be Liam attempting to explain that he was the second option on Kaidan’s list, yes.

Kaidan petted the kitty, "Citizen? Anyone I know?"

“Mao!” That’d be a yes. Who hadn’t you seen around lately, Kaidan, hmm?

Well he hadn't seen Atton, Seivarden, Iris, Miguel, Zack, Amaya, Liam or Peter this week, so.. it was a big list.

"Did you get bitten by a gremlin?" he asked, another in the list of questions.

... Okay, true. But he had even been specifically looking for Liam earlier.

Liam shook his head; no gremlin bites involved here. This was just plain old Fandom Whimsy.

"Are you normally a polymorph?" Kaidan guessed, still stroking the kitty's head. Really, he wasn't going to stop until it was time to leave or the cat bit him or something.

And that was right when Liam decided that was quite enough. For now.

The polymorph question was... complicated, but it wasn’t like Kaidan knew that in the first place. Really, it was a perfectly reasonable question to ask on an island where people did have shape shifting abilities. So instead Liam just shook his head, and then jumped up on the counter in order to be somewhat more at eye level.

Kaidan didn't know anyone who was a polymorph, so the answer would only have helped in the negative. He arched an eyebrow at the cat, "If that's a dominance play, I still outmass you and I have thumbs."

Liam rolled his eyes towards the ceiling. No, it wasn’t a “dominance play”, he just didn’t like having to crane his neck to see Kaidan. Also he’d had enough of the petting, thanks.

Liam, you are a terrible cat.

"Do you need food?" Kaidan guessed.

Well, yes. Because he really wasn’t a cat at all.

“Mrr!” Liam shook his head, and then paced back and forth on the counter, tail twitching.

Kaidan took that as a yes and ordered some fish tacos, with extra grilled fish on the side. When it arrived, he cut the spare fish up with a fork and pushed it off of his plate onto the counter for the kitty.


Kaaaiiiddaannnnn.. gross.

Really, now. Expecting him to eat off the counter? Gross, Kaidan. Liam just gave him a disdainful look and nudged that fish with one paw. Sharing was nice and all, but he at least deserved a plate!

Kaidan shrugged, taking a huge bite of his own taco. "You're loss," he mumbled from around it.
