Community Center Class: Modern Earth Entertainment

Peter waved a bit tiredly from the front of the class. He might not need much sleep, but he'd had a rough day of it. Nevertheless, he was determined to carry on.

"Today we're seeing a movie that was pretty big a few decades ago. It's about a welder who wants to be a dancer. It's got a lot of music in it." He shrugged. That was pretty much all the description Flashdance needed.

Eat food, talk amongst yourselves.

Kaidan had once again brought the jar of sun tea. It was a bright, almost obnoxious red.

Kanan eyed that tea sidelong for a long, long moment.

"Tell me that's caffeinated."

The tired was going around, today.

"It is very caffeinated," Kaidan confirmed, "It's also strawberry flavored and has enough sugar in it to make your teeth hurt."

"Perfect," Kanan decided, making a reach for a cup.

Look, he had no stakes in this tea war. He absolutely didn't want to fall asleep during the movie, and Kaidan had said the 'strawberry' word.

The tea tastes like Lipton mixed with strawberry jam and left in the sun to brew.

Because that's what it was. Kaidan had found the recipe on the internet, it had made him laugh, so he'd tried it.

"What's up?"

That was fine. Kanan had not spent the last decade cultivating what some people would refer to as 'refined tastes.'

"Up? Not a whole hell of a lot," Kanan replied. "Either the dog or the droid ate my homework last night, so I wound up having a movie day in class, too."

But he wasn't going to miss out on this one just because he was tired, so...

"And you?"

"I'm not the one who's falling asleep on his feet," Kaidan pointed out, shoulder lifting in a shrug, "I'm fine."

"I'll accept 'fine,'" Kanan decided, downing a swig of the tea monstrosity way too easily. "Is it bad that I like this?"

"Why wouldn't I be fine?" Kaidan asked, tilting his head a little. "And, for the record, it makes you a five year old girl. I got the recipe off a mom-blog website of party recipes for her daughter that the kid liked."

He had no room to talk, after all, he wasn't going to bring something he hadn't tested first.

Kanan considered that for all of two seconds.

"Well, there we go. Living a vicarious childhood through party juice. I need this recipe."

"Half a dozen Lipton tea bags, half a jar of seedless strawberry jam, and a gallon of water," Kaidan answered promptly.

He was all for Kanan living a vicarious childhood. Considering he rather felt Caleb had been robbed of one, it worked out.

"Did you want the cookie recipe too?"

"... Yes."

Shut up.

Kaidan merely smirked and pulled up his phone. Tapping into his browser, he grabbed the bookmark and texted it to Kanan.

"I was out of vanilla, so I used almond extract on the glaze. Turned out pretty well."

Well enough that he hadn't brought any to share.

Kanan pulled out his own phone after a moment of juggling things, clicked the link, and stared.

"Looks like I'm going to have to take up baking."

"Or find someone who knows how to bake and bribe them," Kaidan noted.

"You know anyone like that?"

Kanan was not above bribing Kaidan, say.

"Might," Kaidan said, restraining a smirk, "I did make a batch to test 'em. Butter cookies aren't hard to mess up."

"Any of those survive, by any chance?"

Part sugar ant, indeed.

"Maybe," Kaidan allowed. There were a few left. He was not going to admit to how many he'd eaten. "Are Peter's snacks not sweet enough for you?"

"They're fine," Kanan replied, "but I can't shake Peter down for sweets every day of the week, you know."

And this was why he'd contemplated learning to bake.

"Oh, you probably could," Kaidan grinned, "I have faith. I know how stubborn and persistent you can be."

Pot..Kettle.

Did a savannah cat manage to saunter in, jump up in to a chair, and curl up there as if he’d been given an invitation?

Maybe.

For the romance, or the dancing, or the welding. You do you.

Now, this was just downright frustrating. Welder: yes. Yes! Amaya would be completely down to watching a movie about a lady welder being good at her trade and welding things, because that was a character she could one hundred percent relate to and she would walk away wanting to weld everything.

That was...definitely not the movie she got, though, now, was it?

Why did Earth movies have to go and ruin everything with dancing and mushy stuff and all that drama? She was starting to feel like they were really all just about the bait and switch, luring you in and then just leaving you disappointed, unfulfilled, and generally cranky about the whole thing.

Hey. Kinda like relationships, actually.

"I've seen worse Earth movies," Seivarden said somewhere halfway through. It wasn't like the Radchaai didn't have sentimental entertainments. "The dance style though, anyone know if that's a popular one? And is being a dancer popular? Its seems like an odd goal to me."

He's got Hell memories a bit too close to the surface, but he's here.

Peter looked.. odd. "Hey," Kaidan asked, "You ok?"

"Hm?" Peter looked over at him. "Oh. Yeah." He waved off the concern. "Just nightmares. Memories."

"Anything I can do to help distract you from those?" Kaidan asked. He knew what that was like - he hadn't had a full night's sleep in almost a year.

Peter shook his head. "Not at the moment, but I'll let you know."

Kanan was coming over to Peter shortly after the end of the movie, something a little bit concern, a little bit understanding etched in his face.

"Got anything you need to get out of your system, buddy?"

"Memories and nightmares," Peter said with a wry smile. "Don't think they're leaving any time soon."

Kanan nodded a little in understanding.

"Can't do much about either," he replied, "but you know I'm always there to spot you if you want to work it off a little more physically."

"Thanks." Peter gave him a tired smile. "I may take you up on that. Sparring?"

"Sparring," Kanan agreed. "I'll be in the park at my usual time, unless you need it sooner. Just let me know when."

Peter nodded. "I may take you up on that. Next week if not this one. I might have to sleep on it a little more first."

"That, I can understand," Kanan agreed with a nod. "I'll clear my schedule whenever you need. Easy."

"Thanks." Peter gave him a weary smile. "I'll take you up on that when I can."

Hell...sixteen hours of airports...not much to choose from.
