Rey did not want the fish. She was not comfortable having the fish. She was not comfortable doing something to the fish because she didn't want to incur its wrath but also she didn't want to leave it in her room where she couldn't keep an eye on it.
Rey did not trust this fish as far as she could throw it, and that was a weird metric because this thing had at least some point flown.
So now it was sitting by the door, facing away from her, and there was a hastily-written sign outside reading:
FREE FISH. PLEASE TAKE THIS FISH.
