Kanan walked into the diner and paused at the silence in the place. On the specials board, there was only one word written. Half-written, actually.

The specials board read, "Panc."

And then there was a squiggle that led down toward the floor from the end of that C. Underneath, the busboy was taking a nap.

Kanan peered into the kitchen. The cook was snoozing on a bag of flour. The dishwasher, having no dishes to wash, had joined in.

Kanan was almost going to hate walking through the kitchen smashing two frying pan bottoms together.

Almost.

Luke's is open, honest!

Kanan nodded and walked in a little farther anyway, before pausing at some shelving, reaching in, and heaving out a box of some manner of frozen meat that clearly hadn't been disturbed in ages.

"Back here should do it, then," he offered. "Safe and sound."

"Hopefully we'll remember where it is," she said, setting the fish safely on the shelf where it wouldn't get crushed.

"It's behind the..." Kanan leaned back to look at the box. "Krabby Patties, whatever those are."

At least it would be easy to remember?

"Okay," she said, filing that away as she stepped away from the fish, gratefully. "I appreciate this. Maybe I can sleep tonight."

Kanan gave a light shrug of his shoulders, which was impressive, given the weight of the Krabby Patty box, and then shoved it back onto the shelf, in front of the fish.

"And in a couple more days, it won't be your problem again. Unless muscle memory betrays you a second time, I suppose."

"Don't make me scale anything and it'll be fine," Rey said. "And if my team wins it, I will run away."

"That's what I did when it was my turn," Kanan admitted shamelessly, gesturing back toward the freezer door. "I have no regrets."

"You did the right thing, you have others in your home to worry about," she agreed, starting towards the door a little faster than she would have normally.

[uncertain_dume]

"Hera would probably take Stance onto the Ghost and refuse to come back until the next Wednesday," Kanan noted. "I'm not sure Chopper and Stance should be in the same vicinity as one another for that long. Chop might teach Stance bad habits."

Could dogs swear in binary? Probably not.

"Can... can dogs learn bad things from droids?" She didn't know, since Stance was of course perfect and she had no other point of reference.

"You have met Chopper," Kanan pointed out. "Stance is a good boy, but..."

Well. Chopper.

"I'm sure Stance could handle it."

This kind of thinking was going to get you in trouble someday, Rey.

[uncertain_dume]

"Stance is a young and impressionable, innocent dog," Kanan pointed out, stepping out from the freezer and shrugging out of his coat. "He can handle anything, but he's trusting, Rey. He's so trusting."

And he actually more or less got along with Chopper, so Kanan was concerned.

"But he's been raised right," she said, handing over the coat. To be fair, she also had no point of reference for that.

"With dogs, I'm pretty sure that mostly just means that he doesn't sniff people's butts or do his business on the floor," Kanan pointed out.

"Okay, maybe I'm unclear on what Chopper could teach him," she admitted.

[uncertain_dume]

"Mostly I'm worried about Chopper teaching Stance to throw people out of airlocks on command or something."

But what an adorable way to go.

Rey just stared, blinking a few times.

And then tilted her head in confusion, because Chopper couldn't be that bad.

Oh, Rey. You sweet, sweet child.

"... You look confused."

Clearly she hadn't spent enough time with Chopper to understand.

Clearly!

"I thought you said he'd push someone out an airlock?"

[uncertain_dume]

Kanan was quiet for a few moments.

"If you find that confusing, now I'm wondering what it was you were afraid Chopper was going to teach the fish," he admitted.

"Bad words, or maybe how to chase specific people?" Rey said, having to really think about what she had thought now. "I wouldn't have assumed the word 'airlock' would come into it at all."

[uncertain_dume]

"You definitely don't know Chopper well."

He generally behaved himself marginally better when they were on a mission and Hera was around to tell him to be good, granted.

"Right now that's sounding like the safe thing," she admitted.

[uncertain_dume]

"Chop's a good droid," Kanan offered. "He's just got... personality."

In spades.

"That's very diplomatic of you," she told him.
